Yeah any bodybuilder can beat Ruiz, Whyte, Klitschko and Parker. Just load up on the weights, no boxing skill needed.
Go to an amateur or low level boxing or MMA show. There is a very good chance you will find a guy with an A level physique getting tooled by a guy much lower level than Ruiz or Usyk. Not necessarily as big as Joshua. This guy for instance was a fitness model; https://m.sherdog.com/fighter/record/Vitor-Silva-113033
I was never a fan of Joshua but he is an elite heavyweight and has only lost two fights....and has "an A level physique." Obviously musculature has some relevance in boxing, but prime Jimmy Young could play with Jumbo Cummings.
I agree that he is to an extent the result of the biggest money and the top trainers doing the best they can with a decent physical template. Not unlike how Drago was portrayed in Rocky IV. On paper and photograph he seems like the result of a lab experiment to produce the ideal boxer - this is something people joked about when Josh was first brought into the ring. Given that, he obviously has had a successful career, but given the flaws that have shown up recently: the chin, the lack of ring IQ, the inability to adapt, the relative lack of stamina - you might call it a failed experiment. Just from the disproportionate amount of money thrown at him, training, marketing, and the base physical form. Not an immense failure of course, he was an 'elite' champion for a while, but it's a failure to the extent that it underestimates the other factors that are needed for a great champion that can't be 'grown in a lab'. This is mostly on the mental side, but even his training doesn't seem to have been very functional.
Joshua would undoubtedly win the Mr Olympia in the boxers only class every year but skills and techniques is still the best gauge for success in boxing. Not that Joshua is devoid of skill and good technique, it’s just that some like Usyk are better in those department despite not having as impressive a physique as Joshua.
Every single boxing champion is made. They are not born. AJ for someone who first entered a boxing gym at age 18 and everything he has achieved is an absolute stud!
Usyk entered a boxing gym at 15. Vladdo entered a boxing gym at 14. Sergio entered a boxing gym at 21. The idea that everyone besides AJ and Wilder were born with gloves on and that's why they're better is tiring.
It's funny and sad that AJ has spent the last couple of years talking about how he has had a "harder road" and "on the job" learning...and is "behind" Fury in terms of expierance But it's total nonsense, he has about as much ring time if not more than Fury at this stage in his career Even if he can learn more he can't physically act on it. He is starting to accept his flaws now...he can't fix his traits, iffy chin, poor stamina, slow footspeed and basic footwork. Hard pill to swallow.
The idea that a 32 year old former "star amateur", "two time world champion", 14 years into boxing and 8 years into the pro game is some kind of novice is nothing more than damage control for a career that hasn't panned out the way it was intended to.
