In my opinion Joshua's upside would be something like a taller Frank Bruno. I see a lot of similar qualities in these two fighters, Joshua is a power puncher who has a tremendous build but seems to be a bit stiff, flat flooted and mechanical like Bruno was. Chin and stamina are still question marks, but after the Whyte fight I wouldn't worry about his mandible. But if someone puts the pressure on him, I am not sure he won't gas in the later rounds again, like Bruno did.
I see some similarities, some differences. They seem different mentally (which is important). Too early to tell.
There is similarity and although Joshua looks a bit better overall Bruno's massive physique was a hindrance when he got deep into fights and I see the same for Joshua; he is not going to fare well against a more mobile guy in a long fight. That includes vs Tyson Fury and Povetkin.
Joshua reaaaly reaaallly enjoys hurting guys in the ring. If only he employed the Jab and could use his strength and speed selectively behind a defence...
Flat footed... Still doesn't use his jab like Klitscko does As I said 1 year ago he needs to take the Klitscko way of fighting and adopt it...it's his only chance.
So Joshua gets his bell rung at British level, and you take that as a sign NOT to worry about his chin. Makes sense.
He was rocked but wasn't floored. His chin isn't iron, but it is not glass otherwise he would have hit the canvas after being tagged by Whyte.
Joshua himself admitted after the fight that it's not good getting your chin checked at British level. He is right.
Whyte is a big puncher and he hit him good several times. Also Whyte is a fellow prospect we don't know how good he will be either. I remember Fury wobbling all over the ring early on against Chisora first time round and Whyte hits much harder than Chisora.
Its all got a similar feel to it as Franks time, I remember everyone thinking he was invincible with that power, the UK was really hyping him up as a future champ. I think the hype was even bigger for Bruno because of his personality. Watching Frank Bruno's career was a hell of a ride, some of those loses were painful, almost avoidable really, except Tyson and Lewis. But yeah its all got a similar feel to it, AJ built up like a tank in the same way Frank was, looking the part but wondering about the reality of it. I wouldn't say they are the same as in fighters but there are other elements where you could say AJ is mark 2.
