Yes another Harry Wills thread. Before any temperamental types get in a tizzy. Its just about two different big HW's. Joshua with 17 fights with the Wills that beat Fulton and Firpo. I believe Joshua would beat Wills what do you think?

At the moment we would have to say Wills, but watch this space.

Why are most American HW's on the flabby side. Breazel had man bo obs, Joshua was cut, jeez.

I'd have to see more of Joshua. He is a super heavyweight with skills, but is he a great? He looks like a middle-class version of Wladimir Klitschko. Good enough today to be a champion.

Joshua doesn't hit has hard, or have the same hand speed as Wlad did in his prime, and I suspect he's vulnerable to puncher.

I see no head movement from Joshua, and his survivable skills vs a top ten fighter are questionable until he's hurt and proves he can recover.

My the best guess is Joshua has too much for Wills, who looks disappointing on film, in terms of technique, speed, and power. Wills himself is a little chinny and lacked grit.

Harry Wills was not in the same size category as Anthony Joshua.
Wills was about 6'2 and 210 pounds. I think he had quite a moderate reach too. Maybe he was "big" because he faced Sam Langford about 20 times?
AJ versus Jess Willard would be a better size match-up.

Joshua. He's bigger, with bigger hands.

The film footage I've seen of Wills is admittedly limited. But from what little I have viewed, his style raises some concern.. He had the tendency to lean forward, jutting his chin out and keeping his guard low. Not a particularly good thing when facing a large heavyweight with good wingspan, fast hands and lots of power.. Wills of course proved that he could go many rounds in the grueling heat while Joshua never has and never will given the nature of today's regulations.. But something tells me he wouldn't have to.. If what little I saw of Wills was typically ( and I'm not sure if it is ) then he might get tagged early, often, and with power like he's never experienced..

How can you really size up a fighter with such limited film and give an even half decent assessment?

I would go on the safe side and pick Joshua.

If Wills gets inside and lands a big body shot he might be able to do the job. We've no idea what Joshua is like durability wise and we saw Wills dominate a giant in Firpo.

If it was a schedule match and I had to bet, I'd obviously pick Joshua by ko.

He dominated him ,but he couldn't put him away and Firpo was not in the best of shape.

I'd be surprised if he was able to put Joshua away as well.

Yeah in fairness I haven't seen all that much of Wills. And any film you find is going to be so primitive that you can't really judge a guy fairly with it. But from what I've seen, he systematically kept his guard low, and even walked right into exchanges that way.. Even 10 year olds in modern day boxing gyms get scolded for doing that kinda shlt. check out the film below and see if you can point out what I'm talking about.
