My friend in Dallas Tx & one of the best trainers I know,Curtis Cokes, summed it up perfectly. You don't know how good a HW prospect is when he's knocking over club fighters is 2 or 3 rounds max. You know he's got the goods when some guy lands a bomb on his whiskers & he shakes his head & comes right back guns blazing & knocks him out Both Joshua & Wilder are still wet behind the ears as HW fighters Time will tell whether they have it or not
All last nights fight proved is he has legit, serious power but that's all it proved. There is still so much he has get to prove. Can he go 12 rounds, how good is his chin, can he fight off the back foot, how does he cope with pressure or adversity, can he adapt if he can't hurt his opponent, does he know how to clinch effectively, how does he cope if he is being out boxed by a bigger man? Now this isn't a criticism as he is making excellent progress so far and looking impressive doing it, he's not even been a pro for 2 years yet and he's looking like a great prospect but he has still some way to go before he can be seen as a serious contender but then he has plenty of time.
It's strange how people are desperate for prospects to fail. Almost every fighter bar floyd mayweather gets "exposed" sooner or later on this forum ffs
Like I've said before, much better as I expected after the Olympics farcial gold. The best HW prospect out there at the moment, but like he himself said after visiting the Wlad trainingcamp, not quite there yet. I believe he will be right there in the mix middle/end of next year and one of the frontrunners for one of the many belts that come available in the post-Klitschko era. Let's see how he does against top20/30 opponents and go from there. He's brought much better as Wilder has as far as monster punchers go. Yeah, the HGH/PED threads are already rife. But give him a chance before comparing him to Evan Fields.
The obvious thing people pick up on is his speed and power, I am equally impressed the accuracy of his punchers considering he is a big guy throwing tons of bombs as well as his inexperience. Fair enough, his opponents to date have all been static. There are two question marks over him which are chin and stamina. If he has either one he can go on to dominate, if he has neither he can still contend and if he has both (very unlikely) he will rule the division, even has the potential to be an ATG.
It's because so many fans jump on fighters who have proven nothing but hail them as the next ATG or dominant champion and this means you'll have others hoping the fighter fails and proves the fanboys wrong.
The hype far out weighs the level of the fighter at the moment which is never good for their development and a real worry for Joshua, although he personally keeps a cool head.
This!!!!!! Still got questions that need answering, chin, stamina the main 2. He clearly is a talent and clearly has power but weve said that about so many coming up the ranks for them to get found out. Im excited about this guy though, he feels like the real deal.
Look who he's beat in 13 fights!! Going strong and getting these guys out of there with no problem. There's nothing to suggest he's anything other than the real deal at this stage. Let's just see how he closes out 2015 and see how he deals with the next level of opponents
Surprising amount of people calling him a hype. What exactly do folks base that opinion on? Him being from Britain?
