One thing that stands out from the list of fighters you gave is they are all from different countries, so each of those countries has one very good talent. It isn't as if a country is producing a long line of elite fighters. British boxing is very solid, we may not have a stand out, top of the tree fighter at this moment in time but we have a growing list of world champions and it should continue to grow. As for Fury, yes he Is of Irish heritage but he has fought for and held the British title so he must regard himself as British.
Give me your British P4P Top 10. I have to look on their prospects and not so known fighters with potential, like you say. Who are the guys in your opinion with elite potential?
Well I am ignorant of those incidents, but that doesn't really sound that bad coming from the world of boxing does it? Gonna go see if I can find that interview on youtube.
In England, the Froch-Groves fight sold out 80,000 capacity arena. In Japan, boxing matches can get upwards 20 million viewers. In Mexico, Boxing is the #2 sport behind Football (Soccer). In Eastern Europe, Klitschko sells out entire stadiums. In the Phillipines, Pacquiao is a god. I can go on, but boxing is HUGE globally. Even in America, it produces record PPV's. Mayweather's PPV's are better than Mike Tyson's, and Tyson is by far more exciting. Wladimir isn't known in the USA because: A) boring personality B) boring fighting style C) isn't based in the USA
He never went to jail he got community service. He got caught with an amount of cannabis large enough to be suspected of supplying which he was likely doing. Christ loads of people I know at that age did that, it's hardly a serious crime or anything, it's not like he physically harmed anyone like in a mugging or an assault. So while he isn't squeaky clean he's hardly a thug or some hardened former criminal. He does seem like quite a humble guy and pretty down to earth, how much of that is his real personality and how much is put on for the media is hard to say.
I wasn't denying you can't be famous by being a successful boxer just not on a global scale like before when everyone knew Tyson or Ali all around the world, when you had fighters travelling the world and fighting in Tokyo like Tyson or Zaire like Ali. Do you think someone in Japan knows who Froch is like Tyson in the 80's?
Joshua has big crossover potential and will be a big star if he steps up and wins a world title. Most people in the UK know who he is.
His irish ancestry is paternal so he is really half irish, lol. I will have to start supporting the dude now. He will smash all comers.. :yep
Strictly talking about the United States and boxing popularity (since I live in the USA). If AJ continues to be successful and has impressive knockout wins like he has been having; he will bring popularity back to boxing in the states for the Heavyweight division. The same can be said about Wilder although I just think AJ has more potential, but we shall see. Manny's success in the states for instance has everything to do with him being an exciting fighter to watch. That's what people want here, doesn't matter ultimately where they are from. AJ also has the look as superficial as it may sound but he looks like a monster in size much like Tyson looked scary (except Joshua is quite a bit bigger). The reason boxing and heavyweight boxing in particular has died in popularity here in the states is because of how boring the fights, fighters have been. I think this is starting to change with the newer prospects with AJ being at the top of that list. Now if he ends up being just a pure hype job then this will not happen but if he continues knocking everyone out then he will for sure be famous globally.
Idiot or troll? Nobody in boxing today would get as famous as they did years ago, before internet. You simply got too much to chose from nowadays... There is much, MUCH more celebrities today than 60 years ago when Ali ran around in circles in the ring.
Most casuals I know are talking about Joshua. People I didn't even know were in to boxing were asking if I wanted to get tickets to the Joshua fight.
