    He tried in the second fight though? Bodyshots were hurting Usyk but Usyk has a way better gastank, skills amd has more heart.
    That won him all the last round in both fights making it 9-3/8-4 type clear wins.

    Interesting to revisit AJ's comments regarding MCracken supposedly ''not teaching him defence'' now after Saturday night given how his new trainer's other charge Spence displayed zero defensive ability all night against Crawford.

    Jermello who is also trained by Derrick James isn't difficult to hit either

    And even though I haven't seen the fight myself yet I hear the James' trained Frank Martin was in a razor-close somewhat controversial fight the other day where he was getting hit an awful lot.

    That's debatable, Olu. But that's a separate issue and I'm not making an argument for the reverse. I'm talking specifically about AJ's claims McCracken never taught him defence. I don't believe that's true at all and the irony of his comments after Saturday night is glaring

    Honestly no trainer has really ever taught me anything besides the basics. All of the tricks I've had to learn on my own, on the internet or from gymmates. I had been almost stuck for years until this year because I happened to run into a boxing genius who shares his secrets freely.

    It’s interesting because that lack of defence was something I picked up on when AJ was champion. In fact I wrote a letter to Boxing News about it saying the lack of defence in the Povetkin and Klitschko fights meant he was not impregnable. I think McCracken’s work with Eastman and Froch provide evidence on this issue.

    It's awkward when all these trainers get reverence for grooming a single fighter, all the chumps like AJ bounce to them then the single fighter they groomed gets chinned or retired and the chumps who bounced just end up in no mans land and squirrel back to their old trainers.

    The fighter is the most important element and once you've spent 5-6 years of learning & grinding out boxing you're set in your ways. Some fighters show a special aptitude to adapt and change up their style but other than that all of them have a factory reset button anyway which a high tier opponent will slap pretty quickly and have them fumbling all over the shop.

    AJ is a rancid golden goose decaying in the fridge but yet somehow he does have a small glimmer of light & hope...and that light comes from the darkest corner of the known universe. Only one man has ever travelled and come out alive to tell the tale of the evil which inhabits it. That evil being Deontay Wilder.
