No, the ref stopped the fight after he took some big shots. It was the right decision, but as far as I remember he wasn't actually knocked out.

He was leading going into the third round but took two standing 8 counts and the corner pulled him. Always a bit of a concern, as you don't get a great deal of amateur stoppages so it's a little worrying. That said they also stop them for less in the ams and people can increase resistance as they mature etc.

Well, he beat Cammarelle Slip :yep

Ain't watched it yet but sounds a good showing as well :good

As for getting stopped in the ams, Tua was stopped by a single punch from Savon and Larry Holmes was genuinely sparked plenty of times as an amateur.

Exactly why we should take am results (good or bad) with a large pint of salt.

Don't get me wrong though, I wish the kid all the best. I've seen him a couple of times and i wasn't THAT impressed.

Savon's nephew was stopped (ref) near the end of the 2nd today. He'd been knocked down once and hit with a couple of hard shots by the Azerbaijani boxer. He looked fine to continue and was probably working his way back into the fight at the time of the stoppage. Cant help but wonder if Joshua got the decision to get Cammarelle out of the way and make things easier for the boxer from Azerbaijan....

Hmmm...would they still try and pull that **** with how much it's been in the media recently? :think

And Slip, true, especially nowadays amateur success isn't proof of a possible pro future. But Cammarelle is a proven force at that level, even holding his own shows the kid is a good fighter.

Exactly seasoned amateur stalwart and future top heavyweight prospect David Price was demolished by Cammarele not registering a single point on the way to being stopped in 2 rounds in the last Olympics.

Joshua who has little international experience, unlike Price, and is only 22 beat Cammarele.

Yep, that one and the Euro's loss are the only ones he has had in the amateurs so far I think.
