Anthony Joshua turns pro with Matchroom

    ANTHONY JOSHUA has finally quit the amateur ranks and turned pro after choosing Matchroom as his promoter in a four-year deal.

    Now living in London, Joshua struck gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in the super-heavyweight division to become one of boxing’s most sought after signings.

    But after talking to all the major promoters, it is understood Joshua accepted less money with Matchroom because his fights will be aired on Sky Sports.

    He was forced to delay his decision to move into the paid ranks as he needed delicate surgery to repair ankle damage shortly after the Games.

    Joshua joins the same stable as fellow Olympians Tom Stalker and Luke Campbell, who makes his pro debut in home town Hull next Saturday.

    They were part of the hugely successful 10 strong GB boxing team at the London Games and both were awarded MBE’s by the Queens for winning gold medals.

    Joshua is the fourth to move to the paid ranks from the 2012 GB squad.

    He joins Liverpool’s GB team captain Tom Stalker, who is undefeated in five, Hull’s bantamweight Campbell, who rose to fame when he finished runner up in the recent Dancing on Ice series, and Lowestoft middleweight Anthony Ogogo, the winner of his first two pro fights

    It is official it has been reported in The Sun today (sounds strange that). Good decision for all sides in my opinion.

    he was offered less money for matchroom, so turned down a lucrative deal with gbp very strange

    I suspect Frank chucked money at him but he had a choice to make- have big money with Frank but be boxing in front of a small audience, have good money and a decent audience with Hearn or pretty poor money but a massive audience (relatively) with Hennessey.

    A four year deal sounds like a long time though.

    He needs to stay out the limelight and learn his trade under the radar as far as possible as he is still very very raw, at least he has time and potential oh his side.
