That is correct-except I have no indication Ruiz was "leg lazy". He was quite obese even in the first fight, & you can call him lazy in training for the second-but it is more an eating disorder... But nobody with that high of a body fat percentage has fast legs.
Ruiz Vs AJ is the archetypal superheavyweight Vs glorified midget fight No matter how good the glorified midget is the bigger man holds massive inate advantages. Mike Tyson broke this trend, but his prime lasted what 2 years? & any man who could with stand his early barrage could break him down as his style was so stamina dependent. AJ footspeed is not great but it's fast enough and he knows how to position himself (excluding on the inside) he can shutdown and beat Ruiz. The more often they fight the better AJ can adjust to him. Easier to find sparring to replicate Ruiz's outside boxing also, always falling short. Ruiz always looks for that mid range distance that AJ is always looking to take away from him which can be done with 1 simple pivot or step backwards. The biggest problem that holds true for all smaller men in this scenario is whilst they are looking to work the bigger man can work. Fury will make AJ feel like the smaller man for the first time in his career, did it to Wilder in their 2nd bout. AJ won't be able to handle it. All about footwork. "WAT how is this dude hitting me from this far back, I should be out of range!"
Definitely only thing in 2 fights vs Ruiz A.J had proved that 1. he was not capable to beat up and shut down Ruiz during 2 fights in large ring. 2. he was capable to run around and smartly keep distance vs Ruiz in rematch. Ruiz had proven 1. that he really is capable to shut down A.J and achieve TKO win. For fight vs Pulev of course more than enough. As had been predicted. I do have opinion that Pulev is beatable for Dorticos, Briedis, Usyk, Fury and Wilder. maybe even Tabiti might beat him up and Glowacki too. pre covid Povetkin, despite small, too might had beat up him. Despite he already was old and only 224-225 lber.
