    Yet that same version of Povetkin cleaned out all the fringe contenders prior to the Joshua fight.

    Povetkin-AJ was a reasonably competitive fight. Always seemed like AJ would get to him eventually, and at the time he was still the instinctive finisher he used to be - but until then Povetkin was giving it a go. Given what he did to Whyte a couple of years later, the power was clearly still there.

    One of the better AJ defences when you compare to stinkers like Takam and Parker.

    The fight that never was…

    In hindsight, if they fought in 2023 before we knew how much Wilder had declined it would have been an early KO and the start of the AJ hype train again..

    If they fought in 2018-19 I think Wilder with his confidence and unpredictability would have taken it.. it’s a shame we didn’t get to see this, would have been a career defining fight for both of them.

    Guess we get AJ Dubious now at Wembley
