I wouldnt disagree with that but considering Ngannu went from a complete novice to fighting for a title in 5 years it wouldnt be far fetched that AJ could do something similar. That being said id have to agree with you as its not likely.

    This is the truth.

I'd give Joshua a minimal chance of catching Fedor "coming in" and a very good chance of being worked over like asphalt on a new highway.

On the other hand, Joshua would murder Fedor in a boxing match, it would be gruesome.

    Horses for courses

    I've extensively trained in both.

Boxing is limited. Joshua literally has a puncher's chance and nothing more. If Fedor can bridge that gap of punching range, which he spent most of his career doing, Joshua is done. Count how many times in this highlight Fedor ducks into a takedown off an overhand right.

Notice his posture as he throws it too. Chin tucked very well, and behind his lead shoulder on the entry. A small target not easily landed on and then his balance and coordination is just too good. If you haven't trained the MMA clinch you are going to get taken down. The man has spent his entire life taking bigger men down.

All of this of course neglects the fact Fedor could probably just punt Joshua in the nuts from kicking range in a street fight...

David Haye worked this angle back when he was talking himself into a fight with the Klitschko's. Boasted how he would kO them both then go to MMA and KO Fedor. None of these mark fan girls ever hold these guys responsible and they are allowed to get away with such bombast.

You need a ground game in MMA and so many boxers lack the hop mobility over multi planar angles to ever develop on the ground. Hip mobility is so crucial even in working stand up clinches and boxers just have poor hip mobility compared to grapplers or even other forms of stand up fighting.

In an MMA fight I would favor the top 3 amateur free style OR Greco Roman guys over Joshua. UKAD’s most protected child of privilege would NOT stay on his feet for 20 seconds. A guy like Snyder would dump him on his back, control him, and G&P Joshua’s skull apart. And that’s no joke. ANY top amateur wrestler.

    I hate these threads....

Outside of luck, freak incidents or a freak fighter It’s pretty simple.

Boxer loses to Kickboxer under KB rules

Kickboxer loses to Muay Thai guy under MT rules

MT Guy loses to MMA guy under MMA rules

MMA guy loses to boxer under boxing rules...

And round and round we go.

I take it you did not read the fine print in my initial post. I suggest going back and reading my post again. :sherlock:

But, since you gave a thoughtful and well written response, I would like to just add my real .02.

    - I have trained my fair share in both as well, and certain types of MMA fighters will always be susceptible trying to bridge the gap against very good boxers. Fedor is not the exception here.

    - Fedor spent his career bridging the gap against strikers that arent on AJ's level (imo), so him doing that against an elite boxer is an entirely different proposition, imo.

    - Boxing being limited is rather besides the point. Its the fact that it is limited is what results in actual masters of its craft being so sharp at what they do. Its precisely that limitation that allows the honing of a craft to the point of boxings mastery and elitism. Like Bruce Lee used to say "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times" Same is applied to any practice.

If you can watch Fedor vs Cro Cop, who was himself a respected stand up fighter in mma at that point (which is why I chose him as an example, as Fedor was willing to try and walk him down to trade with him standing up) and not think AJ, a bigger, more explosive, sharper punching and more powerful puncher, doesnt have a legitimate shot at countering and stopping Fedor as hes charging in like that, I dont know what to say. Go watch the first round of Fedor vs Cro Cop and come back and tell me AJ doesnt have a very realistic chance at landing a fight changer on Fedor. Plenty of other examples to use as well on Fedor following his opponent around the ring trying to trade.

But I will say that, as the fine print of my initial response will allude to, I actually wouldnt really favor AJ in this fight. I think its somewhat of a wind up to pit arguably the greatest heavyweight mma fighter of all time, against a work in progress like AJ.

I just kinda chuckle at how little most mma fans (not you) really understand about boxing vs mma matchups, and how much it actually comes down the the styles of the two fighters, even in a boxing vs mma fight, and also how quickly mma fans are willing to count out elite boxers, considering how many mma fighters knock eachother out in the first round (or are hit with punches that change the course of the fight) and considering no mma fighter has ever shown they can successfully close the gap on an elite boxer successfully, I just find mma fans disregard of boxing to be rather bad taste.

Now, that all being said, yes of course I would make Fedor the favorite against AJ.

Prime Fedor vs Joshua would look like Stipe vs Ngannou for about 3 minutes until Fedor eventually shut his brain off with his G&P or a Choke after Anthony went fetal.

Comparing Aj to Crocop (who you correctly called a high level striker) is different. Fedor pressured Cropcop because he had to prevent Crocop from using his horrific kicks. I'd much rather deal with Crocop's straight left hand rather than deal with "Hospital" or "Cemetery". Crocop being such a great kicker means you need to fight more upright, since head movement is going to be punished by the head kicks.

Fedor's first fight in PRIDE IIRC was Semmy Schilt a 7 foot tall 300 monster who dominated K1 untill a heart condition sidelined him. Semmy is most definitely a better striker than AJ and Fedor utterly mauled him.

Of course AJ has the power to put anybody out but I can't see it against Fedor. If Fedor even gets to the clinch AJ is getting dumped.

Yeah I also find it annoying from both sides when they disreguard the other sport. I think I became an honorary mod the night Floyd fought Conor. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/those-delicious-mma-fanboy-tears.592422/
