All he had to do is say: "I got caught and knocked out. It's happened before to some really good fighters. Back to the drawing board and then I'll be back!" He may have actually gotten himself another good payday in boxing, good, if not great like the one he just had. Now, his future in boxing does not look very good. That excuse was worse for him than getting knocked out, really.

I mean I can understand the late start affecting anyone, but what does he think Joshua was doing for those two hours? Having a kip?

    "I got caught cold"

Perfect excuse. Even the best chins are somewhat weak when caught cold in the first round. He only had to say that, nothing else, and he would have kept his honour intact. Another option was to just say nothing at all. It was easy, wasn't it?

To be fair, Ngannou tried to box AJ and he would've won had he played to his strengths and just been more aggressive. He's a KO artist not a fancy boxer. Completely wrong game plan and his co-trainer Erik Nicksick who is a brilliant strategist who devised the game plan for Sean Strickland to spring the huge upset over Israel Adesanya didn't arrive in camp with him until right near the end of it.

Shame there wasn't a rematch clause. I think AJ and ReMatchroom should do the right thing and give Ngannou an immediate rematch and even if AJ whoops his ass again I'd still like to see them fight a trilogy if Ngannou links up with a new trainer because I believe that would be the best version of Ngannou we've ever seen, the ''new Ngannou'' whilst simultaneously being the ''old Ngannou'' too.

Ngannou is built to be a slugger/power puncher. He should be fighting like Foreman or Shavers where the goal was to knock out the other guy as quickly as possible rather than trying to outbox guys who's been practicing boxing for years. Not only would being a slugger be a better fit for him just given his natural attributes but he'd also be more exciting to watch.

It's true they try for every cheating little edge, regardless of whether this cost him the fight or not.

AJ fans can't handle how corrupt this individual and his team are, how little integrity they have. If you can't work it out at this point, what can I say.

We witnessed similar tactics from K2/Wlad. Haye mentioned having to walk through the muddy field, then having to fight in different shoes or some such, and we know various tricks Wlad tried during the Fury fight, only thwarted because Fury comes from a 'streetwise' family so to say.

The difference between something like this AJ fight and Wilder is that Wilder created his own problem with the suit where as getting messed around by the opponent to disrupt your preparation and warmup timing etc. is another thing. This might have been a small element but they do it for a reason.

Ngannou is an amateur. He has no skills. He needs to go back to the MMA world.

Got to look at it from his perspective. He hasn't really lost a fight in 6 years and almost beat Fury his first fight. Getting destroyed like that is hard to wrap ones head around in that position.

Not that Francis would have won or even went the distance but it would have lasted a lot longer if he hadn't switched to southpaw and had been similarily conservative to the Fury fight. In terms of biting on everything his opponents throwing nerves seems like a somewhat logical excuse. We know from the Fury fight hes better than that. He abandoned the approach that got him there.

He got his ego shattered brutally after Stipe went against the script and beat ass for 5 rounds back then as well. The UFC were hyping him to absurd heights and totally disrespecting/writing Stipe off. It was immensely satisfying to see. There's even a few hilarious caps of the disappointed look on Whites face as Stipe was beating up Ngannou.

Aspinall is going to take over the heavyweight MMA scene and has far more boxing ability than Francis.
