Ive said this in another Douglas thread, thered a 2009 interview with Oliver McCall (who i think we all can agree fought and sparred with a fair number of heavyweights) who said Douglas hit harder than anyone he faced. Buster had thudding power that jarred people.
No, I saw footage of Tyson hitting McCall to the body in a sparring session and McCall jumped out of the ring in pain, Buster didn`t hit with AJ`s power.
Douglas did not have chin issues, he went ten rounds taking Tyson's punches, and got up from a horrific uppercut that would've been the end of the road for many people.
Only the Douglas that fought Tyson would score a decision KO victory. Otherwise I have Joshua via KO in the middle rounds. Douglas, while having all of the tools and talent, lacked the discipline and willpower to perform against the best. The night he fought Tyson, he likely would have beaten any heavyweight.
The Douglas who beat Mike Williams would have beat Joshua. I'm not saying Mike Williams was ever as good as Joshua but Douglas was in fine form for that fight and beat a very decent strong prospect in impressive fashion.
Yes. That guy. Douglas was in great form for that fight, destroyed him on the Tyson-Spinks undercard.
Williams was a good prospect until Douglas smashed him. was known best for beating Tyson up in sparring though, to be fair, but he did okay against a very in-shape Witherspoon. Anyway, Douglas was a good fighter from 1986 to 1990. Martin's not really head and shoulders above anyone. Anthony Joshua is a good fighter but I think Douglas of those years would beat him. AJ's feasted on old men, never KO'd a prime world class fighter. Lost in his absolute prime to a fat stubby guy. Those are the facts, of course.
No, lesser fighters than AJ went further than 3 against Buster, he was a cagey fighter and would not be looking for a KO that early v AJ.
