Round 1: Joshua controlling the pace, Gavern is in survival mode. Gavern wobbled multiple times by Joshua's jabs. This fight is gonna end with a KO soon. 10-9 Joshua
No point - Joshua should have beat him in 2 rounds OR LESS Dissapointed Joshua hasn't dispatched him yet. Joshua's jab is so slow and weak.
Round 2: Joshua dropped Gavern 2 times. Joshua threw after the bell. Should have been a point deduction (not if it is gonna matter anything). 10-7 Joshua 20-16 Joshua
Nothing impressive... I can already see Joshua is going to have troubles when he steps up. Luckily for him the heavyweight divsion is so weak that he's already a top 10 fighter EASILY. Joshua is just too big...way too big. The only way he'll succeed is to follow the Klitschko guide to success...he really needs to start working with them once they've retired. He'll never be a 12 round fighter with his size but that is why he needs to learn to control the pace and his workrate.
Round 3: Gavern dropped. Joshua extremely frustrated, throws at Gavern while he is down. Should get a point deduction / DQ again. Gavern lands a right hand. Joshua getting hit way too much by this tomato can. Joshua drops Gavern again, fight over. TKO3
Pointless fight. Nothing joshua would've learnt from this fight except to get sucked off by ring announcers and commentators for putting away a complete bum who couldn't defend himself.
True but this was always a fight to just blow away some of the ring rust in preparation for Johnson next month which is where we will see how far AJ has really come since turning pro.
Well, Joshua fought Gavern in his 11th fight while Wilder fought him in his 32nd.... Joshua is coming on a lot better than Wilder. He's been fighting named journeymen from the start where as Wilder didn't start fighting guys like this until he was 25+ fights in. He's fighting Kevin Johnson next, who's much better than almost anyone on his resume. Only Stiverne, and Scott are better than Kingpin.
Gavern was a warm-up fight for Wilder for his Stiverne match (because it took so long). Wilder did not look really motivated in that fight as well. Well maybe some kudos to Gavern, that he can make a good fighter look bad.
That's a disgraceful warm up fight to take when you are 30+ fights in and are about to fight for a world title. Gavern is barely even top 100.
