Anthony Joshua vs Prime Max Baer

Bob, I don't begrudge Joshua, or any fighter for that matter using conservative, cautious, safety first tactics....but Ruiz brought absolutely nothing to the dance, and Joshua, as well conditioned and as hard a hitter as he is,...should have been able to stop El Blimpo well within the limit. Joshua's caution shouldn't have been necessary, and it bespeaks of him being gun shy...with perhaps no self confidence...like he doesn't trust his chin any more..

 

And not to mention, Jethro Bowdine, Beverly Hillbillies, in real life is Max Baer Sr's son, Max Baer Jr.

 

Red Cobra, I do agree, look at the pre fight posters of both of them standing next to each other, Joshua's face showed no confidence, but Snicker Monster showed confidence, but sure proved me wrong.

 

Baer would pose more problems for Joshua than most of the latter's opposition to date. Baer, therefore, might be in with a chance, here.

 

The thing is there is no "equipment" improvement in boxing. It's just them and their fists.

 

You might want to research that.

 

obviously if Baer ate 1000 burgers and weighed 270 lbs then he would ko joshua.

 

I doubt Baer's hand speed was better than Ruiz'.

 

He sure did RMM,...and how deceptive that turned out to be.

 

I partly agree with this. But to be fair, most guys would be a little if not very gunshy rematching the same guy who knocked them out less than a year ago.

 

Much as I love Joshua, I don't trust his chin against a fully focused Baer. I think he gets KOd while having a massive lead on the cards.

 

Ruiz’s handspeed is good for today, since most heavyweights these days are heavy and slow, but in the 30’s Ruiz’s handspeed wouldn’t be anything special. Baer’s hands were fast against light and hard to hit opponents.

My trainer’s friend Salvador Villa, who was the head trainer at the fight factory used to train Ruiz earlier in his career and Sal had him spar a lot of the supper middleweights and light heavyweights in the area, so he would be fast and accurate against the big slow guys at heavyweight and it also forced Ruiz to move around the ring, which is something Ruiz hates doing.

When he sparred guys like Arreola and Darnell Wilson Ruiz’s hands were as fast as lightning even though both managed to knock him down, but when he sparred guys like Ronald Gavril and Sakio Bika Ruiz’s hands were slower than molasses and he couldn’t land on them.

 

When did Ruiz spar them? There don't seem to be any writesups or even references to them anywhere on the internet.
