I often punt Tommy when nobody else will, but I think AJ has got to be favoured here. He's not a bad boxer, much bigger and is more likely to land first. Both these guys have iffy chins and that's why Morrison has a chance. But to be honest, I think his chin gets shattered first.
Morrison was a much better fighter than Joshua best night vs best night overall. Morrison's issue was he came along in a very good era , and he lost to opponents that probably would be the heavyweight champ today, and one of those losses came at the hands of a boxer (Lewis) considered a top five fighter in the history of the division. Nothing to just brush under the rug . But when looking at them on film , and studying them ,not watching with blinders on, as most do with this current era of boxing fans , its easy to see Morrison looked much more professional and polished than Joshua, or Dubois or any of the current top ten heavyweights, with Usyk being the only exception,,,, maybe. So best night vs best night, I see Morrison knocking Joshua out cold, and early. It's a bad match for Joshua when considering their styles, and aggression.
Earned like clearing out an entire division, unifying the championships, moving up to heavyweight and doing the same there going 4-0 over the current 3 best in the world? But "maybe" he's just as good as the guy who got blown out in a single round by an obscure no-name.
A big difference getting knocked out and quitting (As if Joshua would've survived Bentt if the same shots landed) Morrison got caught, it's happened to many fighters , even a few great ones,(Pac for example) Joshua on the other hand quit against Ruiz 1st fight. And appeared to want to quit after getting nailed in the first rd against Dubois. Joshua fights like a robot, with his chin up in the air, (Lack of proper training) pushes the jab instead of popping it out, and then drops it to chest level, his combo punches are predictable, and telegraphed. His endurance level and recovering ability is mediocre , (Some of those knock downs were a combination of poor balance, some exhaustion. Both suggest his lack of instincts) His only saving grace is the fact of he fights in a very weak era of heavyweights , and he is well managed,,,,, most of the time. But don't worry, Dubois isn't much better,(If at all) in the fight against Joshua he just got off first. Against Usyk he was dropped and stopped by a jab! Say what you will about Morrison, he was never stopped by a light punching former cruiserweight....... By a freaking jab. Dubois and Joshua are two sides of the same coin. They supposedly represent the superiority of modern heavyweights because they're "bigger" with their "modern" training , and "modern" supplementation and lifestyles yet both fight like amateur's. And I can go right down the line... Fury basically whipped by a freaking kick boxer, with no boxing experience. Usyk ? Who knows if he's really a good fighter, we do know he's better than these so called "super heavyweights " with all of their superior size advantages and power, he's beaten most of them. A former cruiserweight , with a total of 6 fights at heavyweight has beaten the best "super heavies ' of this era. Imagine that.... How can one not think real killers like Louis or Frazier wouldn't do the same, Usyk isn't much bigger or heavier than those two and don't have their skill level . Not even close TBH. See, all That muscle may help them in a body building contest, or bench pressing but not in a boxing ring. All that extra muscle slows a fighter down, makes them stiff, and carrying all that extra bulk is much more exhausting. It doesn't help as much as "modern trainers" would care to admit with power, because power comes with proper technique and leverage. Not arm punching as most of them do today. As old school trainers always said. Everything doesn't get better with time. Sorry to inform some of you of that fact.
This is a reasonable matchup. I think it’s pretty much up for grabs. Morrison might have a chance because he was a fast starter and might be able to get to Dubois first. But if he doesn’t then Daniels chances increase as the fight progresses.
Based on that last fight, I'd expect AJ to end the fight the same way. Faceplanted. What a disappointing performance.
