Surprised nobody has mentioned this possible bout for AJ. This is the perfect comeback opponent for AJ if the Usyk rematch doesn't happen or he loses again to Usyk. Bryan for all extents and purposes is pretty decent in shape. Good jab, chin, power and intangibles, and most importantly - WBA Regular champ. Should AJ fight him and win - not only does become a 3-time champion on paper, but also gets lined up for a shot against likes of Fury, Wilder and Usyk. Thoughts?
WBA (regular) is not a world title. WBA's world title is WBA (super). A sanctioning body cannot have two world titles. People pretend that the WBA (regular) was the world title that Ali won, and everyone else before WBA (super) came about. It was not. They won the WBA Heavyweight Championship. Anyway, isn't that Bryan guy due to face Daniel Dubois? Bryan is an absolute pudding and he is not young. He is middle-aged in heavyweight boxing terms. He will be considered over the hill in 3 years.
Lol please Bryan wouldn't beat Charles Martin let alone Anthony Joshua. I couldn't believe how bad he looked vs Stiverne.
In some weight divisions, the WBA doesn't have a 'super' champion. That would make the WBA 'regular' champ the world champ in that weight division, wouldn't it? The WBA has both 'regular' & 'super' world titles. That's two different versions of world titles both of which get awarded exactly the same belt. The super champ used to get a different belt but it was such a dud they all get the same one now. And the WBA also used to have 'interim' world titles. They got the same belt as well. So if a member of the public met all three on the street while they were wearing their belts, there was no telling who the real WBA champion was. A careful examination of their belts would reveal they are all exactly the same. If the WBA is a world boxing sanctioning body, they can have as many world titles as they wish, can't they? Are you saying that when Mike Tyson unified against Bonecrusher, he didn't win the WBA belt that Ali won? If so, I would agree with you but for a different reason. It's not the same belt that Ali won b/c when Ali won it, he was universally recognised as the legitimate H/W champion of the world. Iron Mike still had work to do before he attained that status. He didn't get there by my reckoning until he beat Spinks, who ironically, didn't have any alphabet belts at the time. Trevor Bryan could be about to become the scourge of British bodybuilders everywhere. Look out, Frank Bruno! AJ does his best work against middle-aged H/W's. Ideal come-back opponent for him. Get ready to hand over that WBA belt, Trev. AJ is going '2-time'!
WBA heavyweight titles are the Bermuda triangle of boxing. No ones sure what they mean or how to navigate safely with one. Look at Fred Oquendo and how he's been lost in the WBA Bermuda triangle for years
Andy Ruiz will have his vengeance in due time. Not right now though, he's watching tv inside an underground bunker below Dominos Pizza
