Considering Klitschko's been well known for having a relatively weak chin, maybe Joshua's punching power's been overrated. Just a thought.
yeah I know, thats the left hook I was talking about, I mean before that when it was just him throwing, joshuas body was sagging and the technique on his punches dipped before klitshcko hit him
The AJ-Klitschko fight was really exciting at the time but watching it back now it's almost embarrassing how amateurish they were fighting. Klitschko must have had something wrong with his left side because he telegraphed a flapping left hook all night, even so his failure to follow through and beat AJ in round 6 was dreadful. Then allowed AJ to come back over the next few rounds. AJ looks great in spurts, offensively and sometimes defensive too, but then becomes all tied up and forgets how to even stand in his correct stance. AJ can improve though, he's only had 19 fights.
In terms of one punch power it is. A lot of people before the Wlad fight has AJ down as the puncher of the two, which was inaccurate IMO
Lewis did weights. Look at him in the Bruno fight, then look at him circa '98. He put on a ton of mass. Nothing wrong with Deadlifts & Rack Pulls. They are some of the best lifts you can do to be strong and explosive. Wlad used to do weights but swapped it for bodyweight exercises. Pointless really as you can't get stronger (in it's basic sense) as there isn't any resistance. You just get better at doing more push up's. It has no crossover. AJ is obviously using the school of thought "If I'm this big and laying people out, imagine if I got bigger?" and the mass has worked for him so far. And most HW's are small nowadays, so it's a big advantage to have. You have guys like Bellew (a skinny LHW & fat CW) at HW now, Haye (another blown up CW), Parker (not the biggest of HW's), Pulev (same). He's got a huge advantage because he is as fast or faster than all these guys AND more powerful. People harp on about drugs/gear, but the lad is a specimen. And that is down to genetics. What, 25 years old (or about that), weighs 18 odd stone and runs the 100m in 11 seconds but isn't a sprinter? And is also one of the hardest punching men alive, has very good stamina for a guy with that much muscle (you lot talk about bodybuilding, but bodybuilders with that kind of mass can barely talk without being breathless) and can keep it going at the elite level for over half hour? That's insane. He's clearly a smart guy. If he thought the mass was a hindrance, he'd clearly lose it. The last thing he is is daft. He is one of the most physically gifted Heavies ever. Like it or not, that is the truth.
Thats what the problem is brixton its almost too good to be true. 18 odd stone doing 11 seconds or whatever. What you ve got to remember is joshua was into weightlifting etc i think around that time. If anyones been in a lot of serious gyms nowadays its not all that difficult to get your hands on some gear. I know guys that have hgh and rarely even go to the gym. This stuffs readily available nowadays. People talk about his genetics but we,ve seen his mum and dad...neither are exactly walking about with 8 packs. Neither look especially genetically brilliant. Think the old mans tall but to be expected really. I just dont think its possible to put on 20 or 30 pounds on probably even more...and get faster. Regardless if its muscle or not. Even what your saying about bodybuilders a lot of them out of breath etc. You ve got to wonder why joshuas fighting at the pace he is...carrying all that muscle...and is doing 11 rounds at pace against klitchko. He threw something like 30 power punches against klitchko in 25 seconds in that 5th round. At 250 pound. He also doesnt look natural. The body gives it away everytime. Their saying hes eating masses of food. Fair enough. But you ve got to bear in mind hes apparently training 3 times a day. Thats burning a lot of calories itself. He,ll need about 3,500 calories to stay where he is hes a big man so over the 2,500 calorie average. Say hes losing a couple of thousand training. So thats 4,500 calories needed everyday to break even. He then needs to eat more to bulk. How much is he eating 8,000 calories per day every day. How has he actually managed to stick that extra 20 or 30 pounds on. Its a hard thing to do in an endurance based sport. Bodybuilders are bulking but a lot of them only actually train heavy about an hour a day. Very little of it is cardio based. They tell you the cardio actually hurts their gains. And a lot of the time their using bulking shakes etc. To get the size. And often steroids.
Basically AJ is a good boxer, who can punch, is a massive draw and has bad stamina Never rated Joshua as highly as a lot do, I gave him full credit for coming through his fight with Klitschko but I still feel he is a KO waiting to happen Joshua isn't awful but he has a lot to work on, will never change my find that Tyson fury comfortably out boxes him
He hasn't got bad stamina he's an 18 stone roid head who can knock you out in rd one or 12 Tyson fury had a more efficient punching style . He flicks his punches out and hardly uses any energy compared to Joshua fast twitch explosive punches If you saw fury try to decapitate folks from the opening bell he would gas too
1) Your Mom & Dad don't have to be elite athletes for you to be one. Plenty of elite athletes have had kids and their kids haven't been anything special in athletic terms. 2) Look at Manny Pac. He put on 30lbs and was faster than ever. Same with Floyd. RJJ was quick by HW standards. 3) Joshua is a seek & destroy fighter. He isn't "feeling you out". Hence him throwing as hard, fast and often as he does. He's not a 250lbs slob. He's 250lb of SOLID MUSCLE. Not useless muscle either. Because if that was the case he wouldn't be able to sustain that kind of output. 4) Of course it's hard to put that on. But he is improving in the weight room. When you lift HEAVY and you keep getting stronger, guess what happens? You will get bigger. 3 shakes that are 1000cals aren't out of the norm. Jesus, you could do that at home! And shakes are NEVER as filling as food. His meals will easily have 100g's+ of protein all in, every time. Add that to his shake and his program and he could blow up. Don't believe everything you hear about three times per day training. Load of rubbish. We can all say that. Look... 1) 3 mile recovery walk in the morning 2) 30 minute swim 3) 10 rounds on the pads Out of that lot, pad work will be the hardest workout. Then swimming (low impact = quick recovery), same with the walk. But is that training 3 times a day? Course it isn't. It's 80 mins of training at best. And Marciano's regime was the same: Blown out of proportion. Anthony is a MASSIVE lad, so he'd need to recover regardless of how young and fresh he is. Take 3 per day with a pinch of salt. He's a boxer, not a cage fighter. He only trains one discipline.
He really shouldn't be trying to get bigger. That really won't help. 250 pounds at 6'6 and lean is massive enough. He punches fast too. His training should mostly be about technique and stamina. Being stronger is unnecessary. At his level it's the way strength is applied in the ring that matters, and that's a matter of skill, technique. Besides, they'll always be something bigger and stronger out there.
I m not an expert mate...just what i ve read and try to incorporate in my workouts etc. But if their achieving it on the level i ll be the first to congratulate them. They ve documented his training and diet. Think their saying 4,500 calories per day. Plenty of protein. But some meals that are carb based. He,d need both to continue to function with their training regime. The documented training regime is 40 minute intervals high paced every morning. Its either sprints or swimming or something else like that. Then its strength and conditioning for 2 hours. I think we,ve seen bit of it with his youtube videos. Its high intensity stuff. Then night times 2 and a half hours of boxing training which he says is the hardest of all the sessions. Thats 5 days a week. Weekend off. My argument is the human body cant do that regime without assistance. The body doesnt recover quick enough regardless of protein intake or age etc. Plus the way the body grows is actually through rest. It doesnt grow when your working out but in the recovery phase. I m saying his body would struggle without a big enough rest period. Bodybuilders to get that physique are maxing out different parts of the body. And giving them ample time to rest. Thats why they do arms say monday and wednesdays. Shoulders and back tuesday thursdays. Legs friday just as an example. Their overloading them in a session then resting them for 2 days some times only do the body part one day a week. Joshuas overloading his system. Then doing it again and again. Day after day. Hes not training to look good but to perform. And yet hes still coming out with every body part ripped. Hes also not going heavy at the weights. Hes using them for speed. You shouldnt be getting muscled to that extent lifting lighter weights fast. For example he does a lot of medicine ball work its not exactly his one rep maximum. Hes not lifting 3 x 5,s. As heavy as he can go. You,ll get toned. But you,ll struggle to bulk up unless theres something else helping with that. Even his arms their getting heavier as hes put on 50 lbs or something like that. Regardless if its muscle of fat or whatever...its still more mass. He was muscled when he was 50 lbs lighter anyway. Its not like hes took fat and turned it into muscle. And yet with that added mass hes punching faster. The heavyweight guys will all be eating loads. Working out a couple of times per day. Doing resistance work. And yet some are coming out looking terrible. Joshuas not weight training and their not. Its mainly resistance work hes doing. Which a lot of them will be doing anyway. Just my 2 cents on it. But fair play if thats done naturally. Cause if it is i say their breaking new ground.
