He doesn't exactly have a bodybuilders physique. All that **** about muscle mass affecting conditioning, fluidity etc. is just ignorance about human physiology and biomechanics. It's better for a fighter to look like a sprinter than a marathon runner, especially in the unlimited weight division in a contact sport. Boxing is not an endurance sport or a strength sport, it's in the middle and even at the championship level it's only 12x 3minute rounds with a minutes break between each round. You don't need to be (and shouldn't be) Lance Armstrong with a pair of gloves on. Getting conditioned for boxing is not hard, so focusing on getting strong and powerful as a priority makes a lot of sense (and that also makes conditioning, skills etc. a lot easier to develop). It's just boxing tradition that encourages slow, weak athletes with a focus on conditioning and not developing muscle mass (for whatever uneducated reason).
Dealt with. This is the case at heavyweight if you can dictate pace, if your with someone who can force you to fight at a hugh pace you better have very good stamina Look at wlad his lost before due to his stamina
If you're stronger, bigger and more powerful then you can knock your opponent out and go home after a couple of rounds. Take your pick on the example you want me to cite. Heavyweight boxing is very rarely about fighting at a high pace. Wlad is a very conservative, one dimensional boxer and has still dominated the heavyweight division for a long time thanks to his physical advantages. Stamina in boxing is more about conserving energy rather than having a big tank. Being stronger conserves energy as you move more efficiently and with less effort, being skilled conserves energy as you don't waste energy on unnecessary movements.
That was my point, I can name hundreds and thousands of fights (especially at heavyweight) where stamina has absolutely nothing to do with the result. The exceptions don't prove the rule.
Sparing 'road work conditioning all bring strength and stamina .Ali was very strong with great stamina .modern training methods use a mix of explosive stamina and strength spinks and RJJ used this when they went up to HW .doing lots of weights can slow a fighter and drain him late in a fight.
[yt]M4rpqVKU1q4[/yt] Thoughts? What's with the bloated looking mid section also? He certainly looks strong and his arms and legs are massive. Still, he weighed in lighter than Mr.Whyte.
Nonsense, roadwork and conditioning weakens you. That's a scientific fact. Weights are used to speed up athletes and make them more efficient movers. Again, backed up by the scientific literature and by evidence of practical application in every sport. The fastest athletes in the world lift weights and lift often. This old school BS needs to stop, it's prevalent in old school sports with a lot of tradition (boxing, soccer/football, baseball to a lesser extent). Ali was a small guy fighting other small and weaker guys, he wasn't strong. David Haye is the same size but faster, stronger and far more explosive, but our rose coloured glasses will see that as a preposterous statement.
