Like your hero apparently I mugged you and got all four straps at once. Thanks, easy work walked straight into that.
clearly. You'd be daft to keep moaning if you'd just been down four times or if your eye was hanging out.
Ive seen plenty of pros not thinking he quit. Youre seeing what you want to see. In reality, he was simply a concussed and exhausted fighter waiting for the ref to continue the action. He was quite obviously suprised when the ref called it off. Boxing... a sport where a beaten up individual can continue to rise multiple times in the face of certain defeat, and still get called a quitter by forum denizens, because he didnt protest enough for their liking. Classic.
So you think he should've let him continue when he wouldn't respond, wouldn't walk forward/wouldn't get off the ropes ?? Hearn never had a problem with the stoppage, Joshua didn't either...The ref didn't like his response/body language and called it off....
Rubbish response, you reading what you write? AJ was surprised he called it off? Laughable. Concussed he couldn't go on, didn't have his faculties? Corner should have thrown in the towel then. Been the talk of our gym this week - 100% fighters and staff agreed he deliberately disregarded the ref, and either performed like a complete amateur in the situation or forced someone to make the call for him. Not to mention the blatant excessive time. Save the denizen stuff ya drongo.
Yup the resumption would have been Ruiz coming over to punch him through the ropes. AJ didn't have anything left in the tank to move forward and engage.
AJ knew what he was doing, it wasn't a full blown quit, but a quit nevertheless. Looked to his corner and shook his head after the 3rd knockdown, 4th knockdown from no punches really, spat gum shield, walked back looking at his corner again to throw the towel, none had the balls to do it. Layed on the ropes, didn't raise his hands, sheepishly said yes then waved off. Small complaint just to save face. Instantly starts smiling.
So what your saying is his body language suggested he couldn’t or didn’t want to continue but he told the ref he still wanted to continue. Isn’t that the exact opposite of quitting? Knowing you’re done and not even being able to physically hide it yet still saying you want to go on. Weird definition of quitting imo, but each to their own.
Legit one of the weirdest fights iv'e ever seen, weird demeanour walking out and in the ring prefight, weird performance and weird way to what at least to me looked like he quit.
Quitting is a strong word and one I didn't use. I just think he knew he was a beaten fighter at that point. He wasn't raring to go. He looked reluctant and the ref was right in calling it off when he did.
