Obviously Taylor has **** all stamina at present and should just go all out in the first round and try to pull of the one in a million 'Elomar' hit and hope. I would say this would be the most effective strategy for Team Taylor in this fight.
does no one give shannan any chance whatsoever? im not saying hell win but he cant be comprehensively written off can he? He can bang a bit and if he comes in fit and fights a cocky mundine it could go the same way as the siaca fight no? not even a punchers chance against mundanes glass jaw? i pick mundane to win but id give him no more than 75/25 odds..
I reckon he has a shot in the first round if he just swings like crazy, however after the third minute he's ****ed. I give him a 1% chance, but hey that's all you need in boxing.
Punchers chance yes......25% chance no....more like 5% for me. Taylor wont get off his chair in the 7th round is my guess after eating lots of shots.
Another viewpoint..... at this stage of his career, why the hell is Mundine moving down a division... He exelled at the S/Mweight, was always looking comfortable, fit and the stamina was unquestionable. Now, at 33, and dropping a few Kgs to the M/W div. he will be doing nothing more than fighting older men from the L/M.. or welter div. who are well past it, in order to build a record of sorts on the way to a M/W title challenge. When he meets a young, natural M/W champ, the tale might be dissapointing for The Man. Clearly, the opposition in the SM/W division are toooooooo much for him to face. He, at this age should be moving to the L/HW div.... tooo many harder men?? Obviously. Gentlemen, I admire the man for the fighter he was, yet, Im getting well over the circus. He should have faught Pavlich already... that fight alone would have opened many doors for Mundine, Pav isnt sooooo fkn fantastic. Im wondering what legacy Mundine will leave. I just hope, on a national basis, the Mundine name isnt tarnished... Re:Mundine Snr...
When you look back at Mundines record he has lots of good AUSSIE names on his list. In years to come people will forget most of the big names were past it. He will fight average fighters until he gets a shot at another paper title. Then he will go do the same at LHW and he will be a 3 division 5 time world champ and in 15 years he will be an aussie boxing legend. And you and me sitting at the pub when we are 50 will say Mundine fought bums while he enters the Aussie HOF. My point is that Mundines plan is very smart even though we think it sux and if he wins his 2 more paper titles at MW and LHW his name will be mentioned with the best aussie boxers of all time....that is the legacy Mundine will leave.
Good post mate, but it wont be you and I sitting in the pub having a beer and reminising...I will be an annalytical old *******..Its the younger generation who take the circus as a game of substance that will remain in ore of the Mundine jnr career. Oh Well, I will enjoy a cold beer with anytime though mate. All the best.
The genuine boxing fans such as the people posting on this type of forum can see through the smoke and mirror's and in 10/20 yrs will say - "Mundine was a very talented fighter who never really proved it on the world stage". Yes he won a secondary "world title" belt, but the true fans of the sport know this means nothing. The true fans know what counts is who you beat and who beats you.
Exactly right, but the game is full of "cant remember the name of the title holder".. The simplicity, and genuinity of the game is diminished. The names are forgetable, the titles are introducing letters which dont seem to be in the English alphabet, and the money involved is ridiculous..and the blame. I guess it stems back to the inception of tv and pay per view.... I look forward to being a 75 year old man, sitting at the bar, dribbling down my shirt, with **** in my pants, and say to some little **** " I met Fred henneberry... he would hold 10 of the 25 world titles available today, if he was still fighting." Old Fred would be a world champ at the present time anyway. Tough old man he was.
Mundine is a stupid stupid man, going back in weight to a division in which he probably isnt anywhere near comfortable in to fight a bloke he should beat fairly easy but might not. He's one of the best talented boxers to come along in the past 6 yrs or so, he has great talent but it's very frustrating to be a fan of his...Im off his express Nah im not but could be soon
BY MIKE GANDON 26/11/2008 4:00:00 AM When Anthony Mundine switched from elite rugby league with the St George Illawarra Dragons to professional boxing more than eight years ago, he was in hot demand from a queue of Australian boxers. Quick to put up his hand was Illawarra's Shannan "The Blaster" Taylor and a serious offer was made in 2002. Mundine knocked it back. A lot has happened to both Taylor (left) and Mundine in the intervening years but late on Monday afternoon, the contract was signed in Sydney for the two world-ranked boxers to meet in a middleweight bout at WIN Entertainment Centre on February 11. Both boxers are in good form, having won their most recent contests. Both are highly ranked World Boxing Association middleweights. Mundine's manager Khoder Nasser, together with Taylor, his manager Jason Coorey, and cousin Grant Taylor, met in Sydney on Monday and the contract for the upcoming fight was signed that afternoon. "Both camps were very excited," Coorey said yesterday. "Shannan is jumping out of his skin. It's going ahead. "We think all the ingredients are there for a good cake." Under the conditioning of former rugby league player Dale Fritz, Taylor is the fittest he has been for a long time and is right at home at middleweight. "This division is where he's going to be for a long time," Coorey said. This year Taylor has been gradually getting back to somewhere near his best. In his most recent bout, Taylor stopped the rugged Dondon Sultan of the Philippines in the 12th round at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre on October 31. Mundine also has been in sharp form, scoring a unanimous 10-round points win over Uruguayan Rafael Sosa Pintos in a super middleweight bout at the EG Whitlam Centre in Sydney on November 12. While a fight between Mundine and Taylor had been in the pipeline for some time, it really took on a positive look when Taylor went into Mundine's dressing-room to congratulate "The Man" on his most recent win. When Taylor raised the matter of the two top-line Australian boxers "doing business", Mundine replied, "Talk to Khoder." So Coorey and Nasser met in Sydney last Thursday, when negotiations continued to look positive. Then, on Monday evening, pen was put to paper and the fight was set to proceed. Yesterday it was a surreal feeling in the Taylor camp. They have been waiting for so long for this bout to come about and now it's on - and it's in the Gong.
