Mundine Snr is mythical status among the older generation. My Dad used to mention him a lot, a couple of hilarious stories of him attending his fights live.
He and Lionel Rose actually visited our house when I was a kid, maybe 6 years old. My dad's best mate was married to an Aboriginal lady who knew them. I can't remember the times they were there. Too young I guess! I think Mundine Snr definitely would have won a belt today, at least the WBA Interim Regular....lol! I have watched a few of his fights though and to be honest he didn't like it too much when his opponent fought back! He fought well against Monzon though before he was stopped.

Sure is, my dad is a big fan. He trained my dad for an Aboriginal Boxing camp. He's got nothing but good things to say about him.
Geez having 2 of the greatest Aboriginal Boxers to come over for a visit, that's awesome.
Lol I had the WBA regular in mind also.
That's true, his fight against Kahu Mahanga showed that too.

It was a hypothetical post. I don't actually think he's near the top 3 . **** I wish some people could read and comprehend properly. He was hugely skilful boxer though, that's all I 'm saying!

I know Lionel visited a number of times, maybe 5 or 6. Not sure about Tony Mundine , at least once with Lionel. Lionel was at my sister's birthday party of which I remember nothing! Pretty funny considering I became a boxing nut...haha.

Sorry if this is off topic, how would Choc compare to Hector Thompson? I probably lean towards Hector, mainly due to his showing against Duran.

Hector Thompson was from a different era....no dodgy tactics back then or dodging Big Fights from Hector World Class Fighter who fought for a Genuine World Title against the Great Roberto Duran...unfortunately for Hector in 2 of his Fights 2 opponents died from injuries Fighting Him...I remember well Hector never quite recovered from that....Hector Thompson would be ranked just behind Lionel Rose as one of the Greatest Indigenous Fighters Australia has Produced....Class Act.!!!

Some people in here need to calm down a bit. No one is saying he is up there with Rose, Fenech, Tszyu (he is Russian NOT Aussie) etc etc. Of course he isn't but be fair the guy was a rugby league player all his life and turned to boxing at age 25 yrs. Be fair he did extremely well all things considered.

I personally always thought Anthony Mundine was a nice person irrespective of what gets portrayed in the media etc etc.

His main rival was Danny Grinning Greeny who I always thought was a "fake" nice person. Mundine was clearly the better fighter imo.

Francis , Choc was a very talented athlete in his early career of that there is no doubt ,he was one of a handful of fighters in the world to fight at a decent level after having excelled in another sport post retirement ,however we were asked a question by the OP and my opinion is he is a loud mouthed race baiter who was a big fish in a small pond who point blank refused to engage any of the top guys in the division , as fir being skilful ? Skillful boxers don't get sat down by blokes like Rick Chong Lee or sparked out by Sven Ottke or Garth Wood .Mundine went ok at 168lbs for a while the rest of his career was a sham .

Some of what you say is true BUT he fought Ottke in Germany after only 9 fights. He was a professional rugby league player and being fair was winning the fight up until the stoppage in rd 10. I know people like to bash Ottke as a fighter but he was a top level operator in boxing both amatuer and professional.
