Despite the hype, Anthony Ogogo is clearly the weakest and least deserving medalist from British boxing team. He clearly lost in the 1/8 to Khytrov, was beaten clearly in the 2nd and 3rd rds, got 2 standing counts in the process and somehow got a "W". In the semifinals his skills and speed looked poor comparing to his brazilian opponent. In the 3rd round Ogogo was put on his ass twice (1st KD - with one punch, which is rare in today's amateur boxing) and luckily survived the round. Now it's obvious Ogogo has glass jaw and average skills - what are his chances when he becomes pro? I mean, James DeGale looked MUCH more impressive as an amateur :huh
Ogogo is gonna stay amateur by the sounds of it. He had a very tough route just to make it to the Olympics, and certainly exceeded expectations when he got there. He's got a bit of a name for himself in the UK, cause he's done some modelling, a Subway ad and appeared on a reality TV show. Plus he has a fun name to chant: "O G O G O G O G O G O! I don't think he'll do much as a pro, if he ever turns over. He's lacking technique, power and chin. Not a good combination. Seems like a nice kid though. I hope he proves me wrong.
You know that standing counts were only there for safety and don't effect the scoring of an amateur bout right? Plus there is no hype surrounding him, and he will likely get to euro level at best.
Yes, but Ogogo is the greatest fighter the world has ever seen, according to the boxing news...........
That's quite a compliment. I like Adamek because he has lots of heart and a high work rate. I'm afraid Ogogo will never achieve the things Adamek did. He's just a decent fighter.
