Emiliano Venegas Alvarado vs. Juan García, 6 rounds @ super bantamweight

 

Both are 5'8" undefeated but untested Mexican-Americans.

Alvarado is 18 years old, from California, trained by Robert García, with an 8-0 (5) record.

García is 22, born in Mexico but living in Texas, nicknamed "El Mero Mero" (Boss of Bosses), and is 7-0 (2).

 

More action in just that first round than in all six of Talley vs. Holloway combined.

2-0 Alvarado

He may or may not get the stoppage here, depending on whether García is dumb enough to keep standing in & hooking with him.

 

Alvarado showed a bit of clever switch-hitting late in round three, jab-feinting with either hand. He's pitching a clear shutout at the halfway point IMO.

García is a one trick pony, banging away up top or down low with the left hook but otherwise clueless...and getting completely overwhelmed anytime he's backed up into the ropes.

 

Swelling on García's nose and the beginning of cuts developing around his eyes.

Alvarado is now attacking the body in R5.

 

Alvarado is a pretty good looking prospect for an 18 year old. (for anyone confused, he's already 8-0 because he fought 7x in Mexico before he was legally old enough to north of the border)

I suppose the only thing he could have done better here is get the stoppage - but García is tough, took a lot of abuse and kept trying. His face is an absolute mess, while Alvarado's is unmarked.
