The narrative that Joshua “controlled” the fight with his jab is a cop out. He landed some jabs, and I agree his reach made it hard for Parker to get inside, but it wasn’t his plan or by design. He was confused and timid, hence he couldn’t pull the trigger on much else. He threw the uppercut and some left hooks, credit to him but he didn’t plan to use the jab and keep Parker at distance and grind out a close decision.

I strongly disagree with this. Joshua was the one landing the jabs and he also landed a few good right hands to the body.

Good summary of the fight @IntentionalButt Personally I had AJ by 2-3 rounds. I'm disappointed with my fellow countryman, but pleased in the same breath. I always thought it was a stretch, even though some of my posts recently had me pounding my chest with patriotism. Joes best chance was to have AJ just walk straight into him, but I wasn't picking he would turn into Wlad, and stand tall and jab away safely to a dull affair. There were a few people picking that, but I assumed Joshua would just continue trying to dominate like he had.

That ref was absolute rubbish tho, which didn't help the close stuff, as I'd pick the work Joe did in there to be far superior to what AJ can offer (he really only had an uppercut). This really did change the fight, as AJ quickly picked up on the ref, and clinched (Aka Wlad).

So all in all, an anticlimax. I hope Joe continues, but it'll be interesting if he just coasts for another few years before retirement (he has stated he wants to retire before 30, and now he has cash he can). Personally I couldn't blame him, his folks who sacrificed so much to get him around the world financially as an amateur are looked after, and Joe and his partner with 1 young girl, and another on the way are set for life also. It's brutal sport, and for Gentleman Joe, it'll be nice seeing him later in life with all his functions, unlike many of the former HW's still getting the odd interview.

Time will tell on what direction he goes...

Good read on a whole, not sure I agree Parker swept 2-6, I'll have to rewatch it again to be sure.

But the cards were definitely wider than they should of been, thanks for taking the time to write it up.

He should definitely continue. Eventually Juicesha will have to drop a belt once all the sanctioning bodies start ordering mandatories. He’ll easily get another shot.

Brutal sport but Parker didn’t ship many punches yesterday. If he picks up another strap he could get a couple more £m pay days potentially. Who knows, when Juicesha eventually loses there could be a rematch if Parker has a belt.

The official card was just horrible in my opinion. Either fighter winning by a couple of rounds or even a draw would have been fine. Parker's game plan was to out box the bigger opponent and he had success. Joshua constant pressure with little offense but when he did land it was the more meaningful punch.

Unlike many on here I didn't care who won. I was just happy to have a big fight to watch on a Saturday afternoon. With no vested interest I saw the fight differently. It was a close fight.

It'll be interesting what does happen...

I'd personally would like to see the aggressive Parker again. The Takam fight onwards he has had his eye on the prize, and it's stifled his attack IMHO. His boxing skill has improved but I think the backfoot style adopted has lessened his attacking skills. I would like to see him start covering up and come in throwing bombs!

I had AJ winning by 4 rounds

    Lots of very close rounds

AJ was much more aggressive than Parker and Parker looked too scared to attack which was pretty much the fight as a whole

First of all Parker was punching at AJ. Not punching AJ. Huge difference. The man who landed the clean punches throughout the fight was AJ.

I don’t understand some of you guys scoring criteria. The only guy I trust is Pinoy at this point. Wonder what his card was.

The truth is this. Parker did nothing to win that fight. He did not go for broke. He did not sell himself in the least bit. His face was more damaged. Very questionable observation skills from some of you.

More stand alone score cards like this please. Ditto for @CST80 - I am always curious how you guys score fights that I've watched, but I usually can't be arsed to search through the official RBR threads.

Most of the time I just post my score quickly at the end of the round and read most of the banter at the end
