Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua vs. Jake Joseph Paul - Judgement Day, Dec 19th - Discussion Thread.

He’s improved a lot, but you can find fighters on that kind of level up and down the country in gyms, he’s no where near the level to be going in there with AJ… even without taking into account the obvious physical handicap. I think this fight will be fake, AJ has been hanging around Jake’s mansion and probably been to a few Diddy style parties. If AJ wants the put on he’s going to have to tow the line, there’s no way the Kabbalah let their own get seriously messed up by AJ.

 

I still can't believe this fight is happening, Nate Diaz is coming in as a replacement on Thursday right?!? Right?!?!

 

I would not count your chickens that just because its only 5 days out from fight night, that it means there won't be a late pull out or failed drugs test.

The concept of AJ fighting someone who lost to Tommy Fury does not seem real. AJ did not pull his punches against Ngannou- he wont do so against Paul either.

 

Yes I am still very suspicious about this. Makes no sense going from cherry picking burnt out mma fighters to AJ.

AJ pretty much "saved" boxing's credibility when he knocked out Ngannou, the same MMA fighter who almost beat Tyson Fury in his boxing debut. Can he pull off the same outcome against Jake Paul? Hopefully AJ has the same focus and bad intention that he had against Ngannou.

 

Even Ngannou could/would pull that off... Many of Joshua's ko victims could if they were allowed to

 

Ngannou is light years ahead of Paul and would have destroyed him early.

Ngannou - WAY stronger, bigger, with much better chin and punching power. Still got stretched cold by AJ in 2 rounds

 

Save boxing? He made a circus of it by accepting the fight. He should knock out a novice.

 

Joshua's the one here who is fully legitimizing Jake Paul's place in professional boxing. Whatever happens in the fight.
No one ever has ever seriously suggested Jake Paul is a valid heavyweight contender (unlike Ngannou post-Fury fight) or even a fringe contender.
Joshua is treating him as legit enough to fight, simply for a cash grab.

I'd rather imagine Jake Paul "do the impossible" and chin AJ into retirement.

 

A novice doesn’t beat Chavez Jr and brutally stop former world UFC champions.

 

The fuss about Jake Paul coming from the "Youtube Influencer" world and novelty/cross-over fights is a load of rubbish anyway.

He's facing Anthony Joshua, who won the silver medal at the amateur world championships about only 3 years after he started training in boxing at all, and only a few months after being arrested for selling weed which was his full-time job at the time. The next year he won Olympic gold medal. Anthony Joshua even as late as 2022 (Usyk 2 post-fight melt-down) was pleading that he wasn't a proper boxer background.

A lot of these "top boxers" came out of nowhere anyway. Fabio Wardley started in his 20s, he didn't even have a single proper amateur fight, just 4 or 5 'white collar' matches.

Maybe they're all frauds, i don't know. It doesn't really matter. It's what happens when the bell rings.

 

Older and smaller UFC champs? And c'mon, Chavez Jr? He's been nothing but a name for the past decade. AND he lost to Anderson Silva as well. Hardly any benchmarks with him. C'mon Elle, no amateur career and a "pro" career of smoke and mirrors with dubious restrictions and exhibitions. Maybe novice is a tad much, but it's not far off.
