Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua vs. Jake Joseph Paul - Judgement Day, Dec 19th - Discussion Thread.

The idea of Anthony Joshua being significantly more skilled than Deontay Wilder has always been greatly exaggerated

Wilder was a bronze medalist
Joshua was a gold medalist (arguably shouldn't have been)

Wilder has the far better jab and right hand
Joshua has the better left hook and uppercut
Joshua has better footwork and overall defense but is stiff in his upper body

They both started boxing late

The reality is they are both low skilled super heavyweights for the most part who win off physical gifts more so than boxing technique

With Wilder this is acknowledged as being obvious

With Joshua he still has a group of fans who are in denial

 

I've just realised which fight it reminds me of .. it was like a poor man's Klitschko versus Haye LOL.. one man was running around the ring throwing in the odd winging shot followed by much flopping around the canvas & groping of the lower regions.. the other stalking & playing with his food mostly.. luckily for Haye he had far more pedigree but both he & Paul looked ridiculous ..

Sure, IF Wilder could find Paul's chin, he wouldn't pull his punches...

It's just a bigger if than many would acknowledge - remember, he struggled to catch Szpilka in his prime, in a smaller ring... And only after Szpilka started trying to win.

Would Paul manage to keep running for 8? Well, he couldn't against Joshua - so quite possibly not.

I just don't see Wilder getting him quicker, especially not now.

Ngannou would come to fight - Paul would probably still come to run...

Ngannou is still fit enough to stick around and get the job done, and he'd definitely hurt JP when he did.

You are looking at it from a pure a spectators view .

You could ask at manchesters major boxing club , lets say moss side , to give you a try at their leading heavy prospect and asking him not to hold anything back at you . I guarantee you he would literally nail you into the canvas inside 20-40 seconds , the time it takes him to made a picture how you move and what is your stance and take an aim on you .

Fella next door vs the top amateur of the manchester area is about the same as jake vs aj .

Shot wilder would rip jakes head off 1st round if not holding back , the same is most probably true for aj .

If Paul hadn't run for the first several rounds this moment would have come earlier

 

Not really, no.

In any fight, if both are squaring up and attempting to engage then there's the potential for it to end fast.

When one has literally trained to run away, and has space to use, it becomes more difficult... The bigger the space, the harder it is to cut it off (even if you want to).

If Jake came to engage? 100%.

If Jake's coming to run, though... I don't see it - especially now - Wilder's biggest punches involved planting his feet and winding up, that's much harder to do when you don't have someone fairly static in front of you.

Sure, he wouldn't need his full power thrown (just like Joshua didn't), but equally Wilder was always more of an "all or nothing" kind of fighter.

Wilder just wasn't suited to runners, IMHO.

Not that Joshua was either, despite being a better fighter on almost every metric.

 

Did you watch Wilders last fight?

In a ring that size and with a opponent running around, Wilder would never end it on the first round

Not a chance

 

David Haye's performance was worse, considering his rating and what he said he'd do to Klitschko (both Klitschkos actually).
Jake Paul pretty much said he'd run around and start to counter punch when AJ got tired, and he's not even rated as a journeyman at heavyweight.

 

His next fight might be against an over-the-hill kick-boxer.

Hes in the straight cash out phase of his career

 

He should wait until he gets the Fury fight to fully transition to that stage. Unless, he's given up on Fury ever accepting?

 

I think he realizes that hes never going to be undisputed again so its just about the money and Fury legacy fight in UK from here on
