Every time I think boxing can't drop lower in terms of respect, something like this happens.

FFS fights get called off due to injury frequently. This one should have been called off until a reasonable opponent could be ready to go.

Helenius is maybe not ideal, but I wouldn't say unreasonable.

Helenius isn't nearly as shot as, say, Liakhovich or Harrison were when Wilder fought them. And yes, people gave those match-ups stick but nobody was saying they were giving boxing a black eye or anything. They were, and this is, a top 5 heavyweight honoring the time honored tradition of beating up washed-up contenders in between fights that actually matter.

I don't agree that wasting an entire training camp and screwing everybody on the undercard was a better option.

I didn't mean canceling the whole card, just this one bout. It's no longer PPV which is a good idea.

At least there's the what-if factor of Helenius landing a hail mary bomb while it lasts

Helenius took a dive against his good buddy Wilder. He's not going to go easy on AJ, trust me he's going to give him the Samuel Peter treatment!

In all seriousness, I still don't see why people think this is a bad replacement. Hell, Helenius probably has an equal shot as Whyte (which is a snowballs chance in hell) but at least he can punch and we'll also get to witness another highlight KO for AJ.

Probably there's the same amount of air in that football as there is in Helenius' head.

Big man. Big punch, but never struck me as a guy with a lot between the ears. And likely not enough to land the big punch on AJ.

He's a gent and scholar and linguistically possibly the best boxer in the world.

When Sugar Robert Helenius fights in Finland he speaks Finnish.
When Sugar Robert Helenius fights in Sweden he speaks Swedish.
When Sugar Robert Helenius fights in Germany he speaks German.
When Sugar Robert Helenius fights in UK/USA he speaks English.

Not sure where people are getting that he's dumb. His problem's never been ring IQ, but that he is slow. (as in slow of hand, and his footspeed's even worse)

What a joke of a fight. Helenius will obviously lie down in Round 1 because AJ & Hearn won't want to suffer in a comparison vs. Wilder when they are obviously trying to line up a fight with Wilder.

Honestly a rematch between AJ and Kingpin would be more interesting & legit than this garbage.
