BT Not to mention wanting to send a message to the current champion. AP Oh yeah, and that's been shown already on ESPN that I am coming, but this Showtime fight it is really going to stand out. I have never been the main event on Showtime, and this is for the main event. Juan Diaz is the guy, there is nobody else to go for, he's got [three] of the belts. [Editor's note: David Diaz has the fourth and Joel Casamayor is the lineal champion]. Juan Diaz is a great fighter, but he's one dimensional. He's a relentless fighter, but I know it within my heart that I can beat him. I am relentless, and I can box, I have been blessed with both. We'll see when I get in the ring with him, and I will show you more than I can tell you. BT If you do fight Juan Diaz, how do you see that match up? AP It would be like a Chavez vs Whitaker fight. Sometimes I will be taking back steps, but only because I want to. I feel comfortable going backwards sometimes. I have never seen anyone get nasty with him, and get to his body, or push him back. The guys that he's fought stood there and took his punishment. To me, he don't hit that hard because he don't turn his knuckles over. If I could, I would skip this next opponent I have coming up on Showtime and fight Juan Diaz next. I think Peterson beats the hell out of Diaz. Unfortunately, he'll have to build up his name first. Juan is not going to get in the ring with this high risk low reward fighter. Thoughts?
Don't sleep on Anthony. Unlike LaMont, this dude can crack hard. His brother is the technical boxer, very good in his own right, but Anthony is a beast.
I havent had the opportunity to see anthony peterson fight so I cant make a pick on this matchup but I sure wish I could be one dimensional like Juan Diaz.
He might be one-dimensional but tough AS HELL, his pressure is just insane that even if you know he's one-dimensional he'll crush you to pieces as the fight goes.
exactly. sure, he may be one dimensional but damn, what a one dimension to have. Constant pressure, awesome workrate, great arsenal of punches, good balance and footwork, added with tenacity and toughness. Diaz is the goods.
Anthony hasn't done any to deserve a fight with any Diaz yet. He needs to beat somebody like Edner Cherry first.
People who call Diaz one-dimensional are underrating him. He may not have fancy footwork, but his defense is underrated, and he comes from all kinds of angles. Peterson needs to take a legitimate step-up fight before calling out Diaz. MAYBE he could have a chance based on physical talent, but you really don't want such a talented fighter to be mentally tested for the first time against the best in class.
You might be right about Peterson winning. Again, I havent seen him fight, but I think it would be pretty hard to stop him. He took some shots from Freitas, who is a very big puncher. I mean, its boxing, nothing is impossible but I just think its unlikely.
I dont think Diaz has bad footwork. In fact, I think its pretty good. He manuevers himself nicely around his opponents while throwing shots, giving angles, and keeps his balance at all times.
I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately for Juan, he won't take this fight until Peterson has established himself. By the time this he'll be more than ready, and Diaz will get beat down. Peterson is the truth.
