Exactly. The difference now is the general population is better informed, and does not want other countries invaded and pillaged in their name. So the government has to conjure up reasons as excuses to invade these countries, ie ooo, the taliban are bad we have to invade that country, set up several massive millitary bases and search for those bad people, we may need to syphone off all ther oil and natural resources whilst we are there, but hey, what can you do?

 

It doesn't seem reason enough to go to war IMO, why haven't we gone to war with North Korea and Iran?

 

I have no information, and not meaning to be rude, neither do you (i'm sorry but Wiki articles don't constitute any form of proof). Further I am making no claim to the legality of the war at all. International jurists with way more experience in these matters than anyone on this forum disagree on the wars legality and that is why I objected to the previous posters use of the word "clearly" because the one thing that this situation is not and thats clear.

 

The fact of the matter, and getting back on subject, the soldiers who Small was protesting against were returning from Afghanistan not Iraq, a war which by any measure is perfectly legal.

 

We will have to stay there for at least another 30 to 40 years to have any chance of making Afghanistan stable. We have already said we will leave by 2015 even if the Taliban are still there. If that isn't admitting defeat i don't know what is. What will happen when we leave is Afghanistan will go to civil war and the Taliban will take control again. When the hundreds of military bases that have been popping up in the last 10 years start getting attacked will we go back in for round 2.

The war is a ****ing joke there is no doubt about that. Nobody on the pro-war side has a leg to stand on, Taliban my ass as if thats why they went to war to defeat and unconquerable enemy.
