Anthony Yarde vs. Lyndon Arthur & Muhammad Ali vs. Jamie Quinn RBR.

We’ve seen this a few times now with some ‘punchers’. They seem to think that if you’re on the front foot you’re therefore pressing the action (despite no real success landing) thus you should be rewarded the round in a low punch output round. They can be so one dimensional not only in their approach but in their interpretation. Admittedly, it is a very fine line...sometimes an opponent is being negative and is being forced onto the back foot (Hughie v Parker for example) but sometimes fighters purposely invite the pressure, setting the trap and popping the jab. They’re in control, they are very much the matador. Yarde was fighting Arthur’s fight last night. Arthur invited in him, popped the jab, moved his feet, re-set, popped the jab and repeat.

What doesn’t help Yarde is that Tunde can’t interpret this either...he’s telling his fighter his opponent is scared and running. Tunde is a clown. He can’t read a fight and he gives terrible advice.

 

Tunde is a terrible coach. I think he has his place in a team but as the main coach he is very poor. What on earth do they actually work on in that gym? Yarde hasn't improved over his last few fights at all.

The whole team think they are far better than what they are.

 

Exactly mate. What gets me is that there didn't seem to be a game plan from Yarde and his corner. I mean he could have just went for it earlier in the fight, instead of waiting till the final round and at least then he would likely have got the decision.

 

Right up there with "We are firemen!"

 

Can you imagine how bad Yarde vs Okolie would be?

 

Maybe getting knocked out by old, shot Kovalev has made Yarde gun shy? Whatever the case is, both Yarde and Tunde have tried to con people that Yarde is a World Champion in waiting and have been ruthlessly exposed.

 

That's like a fully grown lion getting mugged off by a hyena cub.

 

Well, he was robbed of whatever dignity he had by an opponent who only had one good arm.

 

I want the delusional Yarde to get in there with Callum Johnson next.

 

It was a frustrating fight to watch, I just did not understand what Yarde was doing in there.

His corner, Tunde specifically let him down badly. He had no concept of how close to fight was because his corner were not communicating with him in the right way and were not telling it like it is.

Lyndon had quite an accurate jab and used it well, but it was not a powerful jab and was not really doing any significant damage when it was landing. If Yarde had just stepped on it 7th round onwards and taken some risks he could have stopped Lyndon I'm sure. At least put him down once or twice which would have been enough to win. When he did try to just walk through him he hurt him straight away, if he had done that earlier he would have won the fight. He needed to close the distance and target the body, turn it into a dogfight and he would have won.

Anthony Yarde desperately needs a new coach, hope it wakes up and see's staying with Tunde is doing him no favors at tis stage of his career.

 

I think he must have felt a sting on that jab to make him think twice about bum rushing him. Plus, he’s not really a high work rate fighter Yarde, he’s built for explosive moments rather than working for the full 3 minutes, meanwhile, Arthur’s footwork was not allowing Yarde the opportunity to set his feet.

I’ve never ever rated Yarde. I’ve never understood the fuss over him. He’s been spoon fed blown up middleweights with low KO ratios for the majority of his career, whilst his cheerleading coach chants “lions in the camp”. It’s embarrassing. He’s now all of a sudden in Ohara Davies territory where his true level is exposed.

 

Best fighter since Roy Jones didn't they say lol

 

It was less like lions, and more like jackasses.

I really don't see Yarde becoming British champion as long as Joshua Buatsi and Callum Johnson are at British level. I even think Shakan Pitters, with his reach, movement and jab, would work Yarde over, while Yarde just plods forward in straight lines and Tunde tells him "Pitters is fighting scared" and "You got this!" because Tunde either doesn't have the balls to offer constructive criticism / advice, or doesn't know how to.

 

Today’s Costello & Bunce’s podcast should be interesting to hear, being admirers of Tunde & Yarde.

 

The difference is, Mayweather did seriously put in the hard work - no alcohol outside of the ring and when he was training he had proper sessions, sparring 5 minute rounds and the like.
