Saw a tweet from Adam Booth earlier. His Father is in an ICU unit with Covid 19. He's not been able to get hold of anybody for 24 hours.
Crazy scenes in London last week with commuters packed like sardines on the Underground Trains. The Major of London decided to reduce the service by 50% yet he was surprised to see people packed together on less trains. With idiots like him in charge, the disease will spread through the suburbs of London quicker than a Mo Salad sprint. Carnage ahead for the next 2 months unless London is properly locked down.
Very sad news. Trouble with these things can be that people see the death rate is low and think they'll be immune. Reality is when something spreads without any way to treat it, no natural immunity and no vaccine, then even at 1% fatality rate you're looking at hundreds of thousands in this country alone dead, many of whom will be healthy. Johnson has to take some blame for the London situation. Lots of people in the city don't have cars or other ways to get around bar Tube or the bus, and we still have people going to work for jobs which are blatantly not essential. Proper lockdown needed immediately if not sooner.
Why haven’t borders been shut for weeks? There’s videos of people coming in from Italy with no checks or anything. If they wanted to keep the spread down they could have locked down weeks ago. We’re an island. We’re also an ageing population don’t forget, many of the foreigners who’d look after the elderly are leaving because this country isn’t paying anymore and any of them who do want to come in aren’t going to be allowed after Brexit. It may be convenient for the government to get rid of non tax paying people who are causing problems to what was already stretched NHS and care sector.
Still flying from the worst affected city in the World (Madrid) to the UK today and NO testing on arrival - total madness. Boris, The Health Secretary and the Chief Medical Officer all caught the virus by not following their own advice given to the public. A global shambles
On a tangent but you would think with the worst domestic crisis since the war underway that the Home Secretary would be front and centre. But whilst we’ve had Johnson, Sunak, Hancock all regularly appearing, and now even Gove getting airtime, I was suddenly aware that I don’t think I’ve seen Priti Patel for about two months. She’s either being hidden away because everyone hates her or she’s just catastrophically useless.
