Luke Watkins vs. Mike Stafford, 12 rounds for the Commonwealth Cruiserweight title

 

Round 1: 10-9 Watkins

Watkins controlling the action with his jab, Stafford gets inside and lands a nice body shot. Stafford attempts a combination, but Watkins sees every punch coming and blocks effectively. More jabs from Watkins, and again Stafford gets in a heavy body shot. Stafford did well but not quite enough.

Watkins trying to stay at distance, keeping his jab in Stafford's face, until Stafford unloads a hard looping right hand that connects. Watkins back to jabbing and slowly circling clockwise, he lands a nice counter right hand. Stafford lands a nice left hand at the end of the round. Close round.

Watkins is the ring general controlling the pace and the distance. Stafford throws a combination and lands a right hand but he needs to do that more often. Watkins controls the majority of the round and Stafford does well only in short spurts. Good 1-2 from Watkins followed by a left to the body in the last 30 seconds.

Watkins picking up the pace a little now not allowing Stafford to throw first. Stafford lands another HUGE right hand that staggers Watson. That was a great shot and Watkins appears to have recovered quickly. Stafford attempts that same shot a few more times with mixed success. Stafford has gained some confidence from this round, but Watkins has regained his bearings after being shaken.

Stafford starts this round with another right hand that finds the target. Stafford with his head down charging forward throwing to the body and trying that overhand right several times. Watkins now coming forward pumping the jab and pounding on the body trying to take back the momentum. Very close round.

Watkins back to the gameplay he was using to start the fight, throwing jabs at range, circling clockwise, and landing to the body. Stafford gets inside, throws a combination, and eats a right hand counter. Powerful shots to the body from Watkins. Stafford standing in the pocket and throwing shots but taking punishment for his trouble. Nasty cut under the left eye of Stafford caused by a punch.

Watkins looking fresh and energetic, Stafford looking like he is running low on fuel. That right hand from Stafford that staggered Watson does not have the same venom on it as it did earlier. Stafford showing great heart but is really taking a lot of heavy shots from Watson now. Corner is now asking Stafford if they want him to pull him out.

Stafford clearly knackered in there as he is not throwing much, just surviving. Watkins being patient though as he does not want to foolishly get caught with a hail mary shot. Now Watkins starts to unload, heavy body shot makes Stafford turn away and the ref has to tell him to get back into it. The round ends, and as Stafford sits on his stool, the corner decides to stop the fight.

 

Kyle Williams vs. Szilveszter Kanalas, 4 rounds @ bantamweight

Round 2: Williams wins by KO

Kanalas was simply outclassed. He got through the first round but succumbed to a barrage of body shots in the second and was counted out as he lay in a heap in the corner.
