Look at this post fight report from the Associated press: NEW YORK -- Junior welterweight champion Amir Khan made a sensational American debut on Saturday night, stopping former titleholder Paulie Malignaggi in the 11th round of a brutally efficient, one-sided fight. Using superior speed and crisp right hands, the former British Olympian made good on his promise to quiet the flamboyant hometown challenger. Malignaggi's face was red and swollen from the middle rounds on, and he had to lobby the ringside doctor before the 11th round just to let him continue. It wound up being a bad idea. Khan (23-1, 17 KOs) backed Malignaggi against the ropes and threw a series of unanswered blows before referee Steve Smoger finally stepped between them at 1:25 of the round. Malignaggi (27-4) didn't argue with the decision, tapping his chest and congratulating Khan on the victory. Khan signed with Golden Boy Promotions in an attempt to raise his profile in the United States, where he could land the biggest fights and the biggest paydays, and he certainly made a statement. His comprehensive victory against Malignaggi, a guy who's been in the ring against Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, should catapult Khan into fights against the best in the loaded 140-pound division. Some of the names that have been tossed around include Marcos Maidana and fellow titleholders Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander. Many questioned whether Khan was destined for greatness after a stunning to loss to Breidis Prescott two years ago. But he's answered all the critics with aplomb, winning five straight fights and the WBA version of the title along the way. Yes and No First conditioning is a big factor. Second is training. You can train and condition facial/neck muscles which will help. Also Prescott isn't a slouch in the power department. Go back and look at leg size for chin endurance. I have a feeling you will be quite surprised.
atsch Paulie was "hand-picked" for his lack of punching power, he is about as feather fisted at they come.
No,and A MERE CON is screwed. Pauli got robbed. Smoger screwed up. Pauli was on his way to tkoing Glass boy
Everyone, including the doctor, the refs, and both corners were pretty sure that the only thing Paulie was on his way to was being facedown on the mat. Look at the scorecards, watch the last couple rounds of the fight and let it sink in. Paulie was done.
Strengthening the neck and legs can go a long way towards improving a fighter's chin. Doesn't mean that doing neck rolls 4 hours a day will give you a beard like LaMotta, but it really can make a positive difference. It's quite possible that Khan's chin will be better than it was at lower weights for just that reason.
I say khan was so dehydrated on the lower weights he fought. his frame and height is not lightweight or less. dehydrating to meet the weight means burning mean muscles thereby decreasing punch resistance. as for this fight, we all know that paulie is feather-fisted so we cannot gaage the improvement of khan's punch resistance with this. maidana and holt would be a good gauge. paulie's mouth is alot stronger than his fist!
We wouldve seen GlassBoy get ktfo,if only Pauli wouldve unleashed his secret weapon, the uppercut. Pauli was gonna ktfo CON in the last round, but Smoger would have NO part of that, hence the stoppage
