I'm reading a lot of posts applauding the antics by Chisora and Haye. Entertaining for me personally, it is NOT helping boxing!

    Why do I say this?

    Read ESPN headlines:
    http://espn.go.com/
    Read Yahoo sports headlines:
    http://sports.yahoo.com/

Nobody I know outside of boxing circles are talking about the antics. The only thing I ever hear from the casual fan are what bafoons Pacquiao and Mayweather are being.

Improper actions used to be a big deal and create excitement, but when it was uncommon. Now something happens in almost before all fights. And the fights themselves are just HUGE let downs.

    Seriously, was this exciting? NO!

Chisora fought like a bafoon arms flying wildly. He reminded me of Arreola. He is a short fighter, he should take some lessons:

Stunts like this make boxing look like MMA or WWE. Without some regulations for professionalism and sportsman like conduct like other sports or martial arts boxing is going to keep sinking for the general public.

Tyson and Lewis had a press conference brawl in 2002, five years later boxing hits its biggest PPV ever in Mayweather vs De La Hoya.

    Okay.

Tyson and DLH both already had fame outside of boxing and were established PPV stars. Those fights were also huge let downs and didn't exactly keep the gravey train going for boxing as a whole.

Depends on where you are at. But I live In Los Angeles, CA which has a lot of boxing fans compared to other places I lived. Other than the people I know who keep up with boxing I haven't heard anyone bring up the fight and are surprised when I bring it up.

Yeah, this is big news. It helps put boxing back into the consciousness of the General Public. Go Chisora!

Well actually, its kind of helping, considering the publicity and excitement these events are creating, so its bollocks. What's killing boxing is the fights not getting made, getting overhyped and then being a bowl of **** on the night, not this.

    Based on what I said:

"Nobody I know outside of boxing circles are talking about the antics. The only thing I ever hear from the casual fan are what bafoons Pacquiao and Mayweather are being."

"Stunts like this make boxing look like MMA or WWE. Without some regulations for professionalism and sportsman like conduct like other sports or martial arts boxing is going to keep sinking for the general public."

Of course these antics are killing boxing. You think parents want their kids watching baseball, basketball, and football, or boxing, MMA, and WWE.

If the average person thinks boxing is full of shady soap opera like drama like brawling and corruption, and the fights themselves are boring. Then why would people tune in? It comes off as fake and not worthwhile. Especially if you are gonna pay money. It's just HYPE.

Just speaking for myself. I haven't paid for a PPV in years. I watch the fight online or on HBO after the fact if the fight is exciting. I also pick and choose fights to watch fights based on skills of the opponents. I don't want to watch guys fight like pansies (Chisora). So him getting in a brawl doesn't make the fight anymore exciting. To me boxing is about exciting and skilled fights, not HYPE.

If we want the general public to tune it boxing has to get a make over and follow a business model like the bigger sports: soccer, baseball, football, basketball. Boxing doesn't have to be nice, and I don't want to be. But they should be professional and aggressive.

As a boxing fan, the **** guys like Chisora and Mayorga pull do nothing to interest me in wanting to see them fight.

I saw only the first 7 rounds of Vitali-Chisora, but nothing I saw from Chisora against Vitali would take me away from something better I had to do on a night.
I personally would not go out of my way to watch a Chisora fight.

All bark, little or no substance is of zerp interest to me.

As far as I'm concerned, Chisora tried harder to impress outside the ring than he did in......boxing my friends does not need that.

I know plenty of people who would not normally watch boxing who were telling me they would definitely watch these two fight if it gets made. Rightly or wrongly, this is the kind of thing that makes people tune into a fight.

The slap was great. Especially in the context of Chisora actually bringing the pain. I wish that he had more skill to bring it in the ring. I hate the water and bottle though. The water being just flat out nasty. The bottle being down right dangerous to the man's health. A few small shards in the eye and he could be out of a career. Same goes for some slicing of ligaments in Haye's hand.

Crazy antics and hype press conferences are good for Boxing. Antics are the draw that get more people to eventually fall in love with the Sweet Science and appreciate the Gentlemen Warriors. As true fans we hate it, but we have to understand it is a "necessary evil". Filth and street fight antics should be left to street thugs.

It's excitement; at this point in time I'll get whatever type of excitement I can from the Heavyweight division because the actual bouts aren't worth much of anything.

Are press conference brawls, riots, and other types of theatrics outside the ring a black eye to the sport, sure they are, but Boxing is a gladiatorial sport. It's silly to think everyone is supposed to have the split personality at all time.

Fans want fighters to act like warriors and willing to go out on their shield only to turn around a be this well mannered, soft spoken, teddy bear outside of the ring.

Antics have been around since the beginning and their in nearly every sport. Fighters having encounters outside the ring isn't killing Boxing.
