I concur....maybe split decision for Ortiz ( though I don't believe he was ever a Jr. welterwt champ).

Ortiz would be too consistent IMO. Cervantes would be rangier and awkward but Ortiz had the chin to come through it, the jab to stay in it and pressure Cervantes effectively down the stretch.

Ortiz by a razor thin decision, like most of you have said.

Carlos Ortiz did have some difficulty with tall fighters, with good jabs.

And, 'Kid Pambele' usually feasted on shorter fighters.

This looks like a 'Toss Up, as both fighters may neutralize each other.

Flip a coin. On a certain night either could win. IMO.
Agree that Ortiz was more consistent, but he did have lapses and was knocked down at times. Cervantes was a better puncher than some who put Ortiz down. Cervantes would have been very dangerous.

    Thanks.

I think I'll go against most responses and take Cervantes by VERY close decision. Ortiz was the smoother technician, but Cervantes was an excellent technician in his own right, and I think he'd hurt Ortiz, perhaps drop him down the stretch to edge it.

That's the first fight. In a rematch, Ortiz makes adjustments and outboxes Kid Pambele.
