As the thread title asks: How do you see this fight playing out? Floyd would be the logical favorite due to his greater accomplishments, but the style match-up intrigues me. Cervantes is an acclaimed but not often talked about fighter; I really appreciate his skill-set. So, break it down for me boys, who wins and how?
No one is ever a 'logical favourite' due to being more accomplished. I reckon Cervantes could cause Floyd all sorts of problems, height, awkwardness, ring generalship, choppy power, he has a lot of attributes you imagine Floyd wouldn't like to face.
Well, they kind of are! I meant the general public type of favorite, a betting favorite if you will, not that he's automatically inclined to win. And those problems are exactly the type of things I was thinking of. I'm interesting in seeing how people think Floyd would adjust, or try to.
Mayweather is all wrong for Cervantes, who was just too robotic, and would make him look silly. The first Loche fight and the Benitez fight say it all about this match up
The Locche rematches don't mean much to you then I take it? Cervantes' stiffness is probably his most detrimental stylistic habit, but at the same time he only moved when he had to and was quite efficient at subtle defensive movements that made all the difference. Not a master or anything, but effective.
My heart badly wants to say Kid Pambele. My head knows that Floyd would be a bad style matchup for him. Floyd by decision.
I want to say Cervantes, but FMJ is a bad matchup for him. He never had an easy time against guys who were great defensively or awkward or really hard to hit due to superior reflexes. Even when he beat guys like that, he struggled against them, such as Locche, Benitez, and Mamby.
