Cervantes, better defense and more power, Taylor would always be too open fighting a puncher. The reach would be too much for Taylor, Meldrick fought the wrong way against taller fighters Norris and Espana, even though Taylor was quicker at light welter he still tried to brawl too much and simply was no Duran in that respect.
Tough fight for Cevantes....but he fought many styles when he was at the top of the heap for 10 years. If MT doesn't overwhelm AC early....then AC just boxes his way to a close, but UD 15 rd decision.
Cervantes would stop Taylor late, and he'd do so a lot easier than Chavez did. Mel would do very well with his handspeed for 4-5 rounds, but Cervantes takes over after that and eventually Taylor gets bombed out.
15 rounds, definitely Cervantes, something like 9-6 in rounds. A close, unanimous verdict which would see Antonio come from behind to win.
Antonio Kid Pambele Cervantes would not be fighting a young 17 year old Wilfred El Radar Benitez, instead he would be fighting a very fast well trained opponent in Meldrick Taylor Jr. Cervantes has his difficulties early with Meldrick's speed, but comes on strong to capture a close but unanimous verdict.
Kid Pambele is absurdly underrated. Guy was a beast in his prime. He walks through Taylor after struggling with his speed then finds the mark for a stoppage.
Agree, I think Pambele and Betulio Gonzalez are most underrated legends from South America. Maybe with Santos Laciar the third
Betulio González has some insane résumé. It's an absolute travesty that he isn't in the HOF. If I were to have a go of that list, I'd say throw Ernesto Marcel, Luis Rodriguez, Rafael Herrera and Eusebio Pedroza belong.
