This fight could’ve happened I believe in 75. Anyways with 15 rounds to work how does this pan out?

In the Duran book (not the autobiography) they wrote that it was a fight that could have happened but they were in no hurry to make as Cervantes was terrific and not enough money for the risk at the time ,,,

I agree Duran wins by late stoppage.
Cervantes was great, but Duran is way better.
Anyway, it is not going to be an easy paychek for Duran. Cervantes is gonna take him to war. But once Duran gets close and personal the outcome is unavoidable...

Agreed, Duran is too skilled and hits too hard.

@Kid Bacon said "Cervantes was great, but Duran is way better." That sentence says it all. At that point Duran was better than great. I agree with the late stoppage scenario but, man, it would have been a great fight.

It is a shame we never saw Duran vs Cervantes, but again it was also a shame we never saw Duran vs Prior or Duran vs Arguello...

The 80s was a fantastic era for boxing but also a "cursed one". There was so much talent in the LW - WW - MW categories, so many ATG, HOF and prime contenders cluttering the ranks that it was humanly impossible for Duran or any other boxer to cover all the bases and fight everybody who was worthy a shot.

He got kod by Aaron Pryor, Duran would knock him into next century. Cervantes lost to a lot of no names, Duran beats him soundly.

You really think the version Pryor fought was any true representation of Cervantes?

I’d favor Duran but Cervantes would have to be given a live chance. He was a true great

An often forgotten one. His name is attached to quite a few guys records as an example of greatness. Benitez’s greatest achievement, Nicolinio’s too off the top of my head. Tony himself remains mostly remembered as an opponent.

For me, very, very, few fighters around 135/140 would even have a chance of beating Duran at his rampaging best, I don't believe that good champion that he undoubtedly was , he was 1 of them, give Roberto trouble yes, take the fight into the later rounds maybe, but a win over Duran no, and frankly i'm surprised one of our esteemed brethren believes the contrary.
    stay safe guys.

This. You've summed up exactly how I envisage this one.
