Co-main event on Top Rank's next ESPN card, headlined by Joshua Kyle Greer Jr. vs. Michael Angelou Villafuerte Plania on Tuesday night. Battle of hard-hitting Mexican-American southpaws. I'm not sure I love this matchmaking, to be honest. They are only six years apart in biological age, but DeMarco is a well-used 34. He may have only been stopped twice and not for a long time now (by Adrien Broner and Edwin Valero eight and ten years ago respectively) - but he's batting .500 in his last ten fights since Broner and is a natural lightweight, taking on a full-fledged young beast of a welter in Santillán. Now, this could be a banana peel for the younger man as he is taking a big leap up in class here compared to his previous opposition - but, idk. We may well be seeing the brutally prolonged demolition of a longtime fan-fave, with his chin proving too good for his own good...
De Marco is due for another stoppage loss. Santillan's power is deceptive and he's got a solid chin, I think it'll be a war for as long as it lasts, with Giovani coming out on top via late ref intervenes TKO.
Interesting. I don't think Santillan is anything special to be honest. And i don't think he hits harder than Jamal James and DeMarco took his power shots well. I think Santillan has some flaws and i guess if DeMarco still has it, he can exploit them. The gap of experience also incredibly high considering Santillan has almost 30 pro fights but not a single Top 20 or Top 25 guy on his list. DeMarco might get robbed in a close fight, but i can also see him digging to the body like he usually does and stopping Santillan late. Santillan was rocked for a second in his last fight by a can. DeMarco should have superior inside game and i like him here.
I do think definitely DeMarco. Santillan hasn't beaten anyone. Not even a Top 100 guy on his record and he's a pro for 8 years and has 25 fights. I don't rate Plania tbh.
