De Marco didn't consistently attack the body, his shots all looked like arm punches, his accuracy was way off, he was only throwing one shot at a time, and he was outworked by his mediocre opponent. I have a hunch he had a hard time getting down to Lightweight.

Valero was a better boxer than the old Ponce de Leon, but probably not the new one.

DPDL has improved greatly since he faced Lopez, let alone Penalosa - leaps and bounds.

Valero's performance against DeMarco was probably the best he was capable of. Good but not great IMO. We most likely saw the ceiling of not only his speed and power at 135, but of his overall ability as well.

Does anybody know if Showtime is going to replay the Cotto/Mayorga fight? I'll be on a plane when it goes down, but definitely want to see it.

When was DPDL's last fight? on the undercard of Mosley Mora? I have to respectfully disagree. The guy he was fighting was pretty good, but it was just his RAW power that still won that fight - every wrecking ball he threw hurt the guy even if he blocked it. If the guy had slightly better punch resistance he would have walked through the so called defensive improvements in Ponce's game, because he is STILL slow, he still has a very open guard, but he is being a little smarter about how he attacks.

The DPDL I saw a few months ago was an amatuer with freakish world class ++ power. Valero had great power and was crude but definitely a pro.

    :nod

Other than getting the W (and the WBC Silver title, FWIW) he can't feel too good about this evening.

    Oh ****! Breaking news!

Humberto Soto and Tony DeMarco are cousins and will not fight under any circumstances. If Soto beats Urbano Antillon, he will move up a division and Gary Shaw will name a new lightweight champ! DeMarco would then fight the UK's John Murray!

DeMarco-Murray would actually be pretty competitive. :think

After the 5th I thought he was going to spark Sanchez at some point but then he stoped jabing and was looking to time one big shot which caused him to get out worked badly. Could be a bad night I guess, one thing is for sure Soto would murder him
