I've seen a little bit of Esparragoza from the footage available on youtube. Briefly I come to the conclusion that his hand-speed seemed deceptively impressive in combination, and he seemed to punch through opponents. I think that's the saying. Some punches when they throw their shots drive it through, like an Alexis Arguello or a Michael Carbajal, Esparragoza delivered shots similarly I feel. Other than that, I need to see more but he looks good. Everyone who's my stance on Marco Antonio Barrera, and given my limited knowledge of the opponent in this match-up, I wouldn't feel right combating anyone who picks against him. Purpose of the thread is to both comment on who you think would have won in a match-up at 126lbs, and give detailed reasons as to what that is. What were Esparragoza's strengths and weaknesses should be mentioned also, that goes without saying. What do you think?
I really don't know, it's a very hard one to pick. Esparragoza was a good boxer, and had combos. Barrera was a complete man styles wise, maybe the attributes would come into play. I'll take Barrera on a whim, McGrain's seen more of Esparragoza though, i've only seen the ones he posted of him.
I am happy Teeto, lol. That being said, contrary to popular opinion, I'm not a mindless nut-hugger so I'd like to hear views that say Esparragoza wins. I love Marco because of his attitude and style, not because I'm under the illusion he's the greatest Featherweight to ever walk the Earth. Thanks for the insight though, I look forward to hearing what everybody else has to say. Interested in writing for my new site?
I'll take Barerra by decision. Esparagozza was certainly great too watch but I think Barerra was more proven against a higher level of competition. It could be a very difficult fight for Barrera given Esparagozza's defense and movement. But I just think Barrera's consistency and tenacity would shine thorugh.
I'd love to Addie, i'm knee deep in revision for exams right now but i could try and contribute whenever possible. Don't know if i'm up to any kind of standard though, so i'll just have to do my best. I've got a really busy night ahead of me tonight but we can discuss it asap?
This could be quite similar to the Morales fights. Antonio was a stiff, upright textbook fighter with fine cultured offensive skills. I prefer barrera's more versatile and dynamic approach to swing close rounds in his favour.
ID definitely go with Barrera here, Esparragoza was very good but a notch below Barrera. He was lucky to get the decision against Villasana who although very tough and a good fighter not no Barrera. Barrera would have to much of everything although Esparragoza was a dangerous puncher and he would be competetive. I see Barrera winning a competetive but clear decison.
