Antonio Esparragoza vs Marcos Villasana (Scorecards?)

Just recently scored this one, and I don't agree with the draw decision at all. I personally can't see it. I think Villasana clearly dictated the tempo of the fight and his consistent body work won him this fight, I had it within a point of what referee James Jem Kin actually, who was the judge that scored it for Villasana that night.

As for as I know Esparragoza was a power hitter that had bowled over every one else that he had fought up until Villasana. He deals with the high level pressure in a decent, but not great manner. He has damage seemingly over both eyes by the end of the point, and a lot of his shots seemingly don't land flush on Marcos. He tries to keep his jab working but it's no more accurate than the jab Villasana consistently throws to the gut of Esparragoza.

An unfair decision in my opinion. Love to hear some opinions from other posters.

What are your thoughts on these two? How would they fare if they were active now?

 

Frampton is world class but vulnerable. The way he's faded late at times is troubling, especially with his now supposed weight issues. He looked very vulnerable and won by I think a single point against a guy that an ancient Hasegawa out pointed years ago... So no, I think both of them are a cut above Frampton. You would have to match them with a real elite at the weight, someone like Mikey Garcia.

 

Indeed. He also had zero respect for the power of Esparagozza, who himself was a banger. He imposed himself on him constantly and I imagine Villsana is the only fighter he ever ran into that he simply couldn't lay out with a clean one to the jaw.

Villasana was absolutely an iron man. Underrated fighter in my opinion.
