Ever since I entered this discussion I have talked nothing but truth, and that will be the case to the very end. Antonio Margarito does have losses on his record, but very rarely does a great fighter retire undefeated. If they do manage it, it's usually because they didn't fight the best of their era, and in Floyd Mayweather Jr's case, I think this rings true. In any event, Antonio Margarito deserves credit for coming back from defeat to defying the odds by stopping Miguel Cotto. I think in that victory he proved that he was the #1 man at Welterweight. Miguel Cotto's best victory's at Welterweight were against Mosley, Quintana, and Judah. Unlike Eze, who I seem to disagree with consistantly, I believe Mosley even now is a better fighter than anyone Floyd defeated at 147. Assuming you agree, Miguel Cotto has a better CV as a 147lb fighter than Floyd Mayweather. That same man with a better track record at 147 than the almighty Floyd Mayweather, was the same man not long stopped by Antonio Margarito. Floyd Mayweather took his opportunity to defeat a vunerable champion in Baldomir. He was the undisputed champion at the time, but would Margarito beat Margarito? I think so, as would any top 10 147 fighter around today. That isn't to discredit Mayweather, he did what he had to do, but Baldomir was there to be taken. Wasn't a great win by any means. Floyd Mayweather knocked out an undefeated and extremely motivated Junior Welterweight, who had looked vunerable against Collazo, in a fight I felt Ricky lost. However, likewise, Floyd Mayweather Jr deserves a lot of credit for being Ricky, but Hatton wasn't the same fighter as he was at 140, and that wasn't just evidenced in the Mayweather fight, but also the Collazo fight. Margarito lost to Paul Williams in a tightly contested bout, but now has gone on to beat the man at 147lb. He earned his position, and deserves all the praise that he recieves from people who aren't completely insane.
How can you say that? have you looked at the list of fighters that Floyd has beaten??? Just because he makes it look easier you discredit him. Yeah hes EXPECTED to win and unfortunatley as was the case with Roy Jones in his prime people start to acuse him of taking "easy" fights.. like Roy Jones said they werent bums he just made them look that way :good Didnt people think Chico was going to beat Mayweather? And how were the odds stacked against Chico? I could say Chico was much bigger and taller than Mayweather and punched harder and had a good jab and could have beaten Mayweather before the fight. but now thats its over and Mayweather beat him and made it seem so easy instead you have to bring down the person he fought to discredit his victory, despite how easy he made it look. Your completley discrediting Floyd with all the excuses for Chico losing. I could completley dispute that and say something like.. the fact that Chico was going to prison put an anger into him that would make him even more hungry and more dangerous come fight night and along with Mayweathers harsh remarks about him would make him want to kill Mayweather on fight night..the only one I will give you the benefit of the doubt on would be Gatti but its not that he beat Gatti its the way he did it he was as Max Kellerman said "scintillating" Your one of those who thinks just because Margo displays a much harder mentality in his boxing style and in the ring that hes necessarily "tougher" than somebody like Mayweather.. :nono
margarito isnt overrated he just had a couple of early glitches PW loss that wasnt the margarito we saw against cotto
I'm not discrediting Floyd by any means. He's beaten good comp and has a great resume....However, he hasn't cleaned out any divisions, he hasn't really unified and he hasn't faced the VERY best in each class that he grabs a title. Don't get bent out of shape bro.....I'm just calling a spade a spade. And you aren't catching my angle...I didn't say floyd didn't beat anyone tough or hard. I said he chose the opponents well. Stylistically he chose opponents like Gatti or Chico that would not be a dangerous or as dangerous. I don't call any boxers bums..espcially at this level. Floyd makes boxers look ordinary given their style, skills and talent levels. But I'm not saying floyd doesn' thave some notable wins....All I'm sayin is he could have a LOT better career had he not avoided more dangerous foes that were out there to challenge. Again.....Not knocking Floyd...it's his life and career, but he gets all bent out of shape b/c his critics bring this up. I never said the odds were stacked up against Chico...just that he was not the favoirate to win. And i never brough Chico down to make Mayweather look bad. I can't do that b/c Chico was a world champion and very soild fighter and tough as nails....HOWEVER...You seem to continue to miss my point....His style matched up well for may...but not so well for Chico...I don't think Floyd's style mathes up well for anyone for that matter. The only excuse I could offer to why Chico lost was due to Floyd Mayweather I mean....it's only two men in the ring so I'm not sure how you are saying I'm makeing excuses for Chico. What I am saying is "Styles make fights" and Floyd knows this very well. Now... i do agree with your last statment. I do believe that Marg is tougher than Mayweather. I don't think Marg is a better boxer. Stylistically I've always said that Floyd would beat Marg. It would a good fight but a clear victory for Floyd. My reasoning for me saying Marg is tough is just due to how marg carries himself in and out of the ring vs how floyd does. Floyds Style is one for flare and flash, Technical and cautious....Marg is straight forward...take punishment to give. The toughness of mentaility in boxing means alot to the overall toughness of the fighter.
Just beacuse Mayweathers style is technical and cautious does not mean that he cant take it .. hes been doin this thing since he was a lil kid... he knows what it is.. hes been beaten up before in sparring sessions
There is a big difference taking a beating in sparring as a child and taking on as a man in the pro ranks. Now....with that said, I don't question Floyd being tough....he has to be to be a boxer...i just feel marg is tougher mentally, which has nothing to do with who would win in a sanctioned boxing match. Again....Floyd's style is a nightmare for a Margarito.
Yeah your right about Margo I guess hes too ****ing hardheaded and doesnt give a damn about his own life and health :-(
