I do not want to compare these two in terms of greatness, or who would win or anything like that.

But I really like Margarito, and the way he in fights, and the way he hurts his opponents is almost like a hyperactive version of Chavez. The body and head attacks are very well timed, the damage continues to build. He is just damn slick in there, and makes every shot count. Cintron is lucky he was taken out when he was, because in a few more rounds the beating would have just piled up to the point where he would have been seriously injured. He was just being systematically destroyed.

Cotto is really outstanding so I can't really pick a winner, but boy will this be an outstanding match if it happens.

**** This Thread Is Not A Thread About Who Is Better Or Who Would Win ****

I am just noting the similarity in style, and the similarity of them as athletes.

I notice the similarity. Margarito figures you out early with a lot of pressue just like Chavez did. I do believe he is a bit more active than Chavez and Chavez corners you better but there is an obvious similarity. If you like Chavez you'd liklely enjoy watching Magarito fight.

Cotto is more like Chavez than Margarito is.

Chavez and Cotto throw their shots and combos from more orthodox angles than Margarito. Margarito loops more shots, but can catch you from strange angles, as I've seen him on more than one occassion catch guys with left uppercuts from a southpaw stance. Not short uppercuts, but long, extended uppercuts. Cotto and Chavez both are more methodical with lesser workrates (although Cotto throws quite a bit) than Margarito. They both are better on defense, as Cotto's peek-a-boo defense can be effective, as was Chavez's slipping shots and rolling with them well. Margarito tends to leave himself more open and squares up more often.

Cotto is much more like Chavez than Margarito will ever be.

Edit: Just realized the person above me said the same thing.. oh well, I have nothing else to add other than :patsch

Obviously alot of you guys have'nt a clue and never watched JC Chavez at anywhere near the height of his career.......

The only similarities between Chavez and Margarito is that they are both relentless and have great chins.....thats it.

Chavez was an all around well rounded fighter.....offensively and defensively.

It was amazing how relentless Chavez could be and still use parrying techniques, head and waist movements.....and just all around nuances in his game like setting traps to then systematically bring down an opponent with amazing like precision.

Chavez with as great an offensive fighter that he was, also had great defense.
Margarito does'nt know the meaning of the word defense!

I love watching Margarito, but I'm sorry, he's nothing like the great
    JC Chavez.

For somebody to start a thread comparing the two and have some posters agree with it, its really disappointing to see from one of if not the best boxing forum on the net.
