Antonio Margarito vs cotto

for who?

 

Cotto may have a chance of winning a close decision but he will never stop someone like Margo especially not in 5 rounds like some delusional people believe. Cotto would look lost when Margarito laughs at his best shots. As a matter of fact, Cotto may start his back pedaling/counter-punch game like in the Mosley fight to get away from Margarito's heat. The difference is Margo is not going to let up because he's still in his prime unlike Shane who had one foot out the door on his way to retirement.

Margo may not have PBF handspeed but Cotto is certainly not Mayweather when it comes to defense. It's going to be a give and take fight and when it comes down to it his chin is nothing compared to Margarito nor is his power even close to Cintron's. The only advantage Cotto realistically has is better boxing technique but that unfortunately won't mean a great deal in this type of fight unless he wants to potshot and run for 12 rounds to victory but I don't see that happening with someone as macho as Cotto.

 

Danny Perez, for sure. Apparently he's been down on two other occasions, as well.

 

I know this opinion isnt going to be a popular one, but I think Antonio Margorito would win.

When I see both of these guys fight, I see two different things. I see a pressure fighter in Margo and a semi-agressor/boxer in Cotto. I think cotto has become less agressive as his competition has become more stiff. I watched Shane vs. Cotto last night and I personally think Margorito would be on him so much he wouldnt know what to do.

At many moments during cotto mosley, I thought there were points were both fighters could have been more agressive and finished the fight where instead they chose to back off and let the other have a second or two to regain his footing. Not saying they were hurt, Im just saying with margorito's style, I think we would be in for a good one.

This fight wouldnt last long.

I could definitely see a stoppage in favor of Cotto, but I could also see him selectively attacking and moving off the backfoot because of Margarito's size and good physical strength. I don't envision Cotto technically pressuring him right from the start. He would, however, if he wore Margarito down with precise punching.

 

When will people realize that Margo is to flawed and limited to beat the elite??? Cotto would terrorize Margo's long body and make him quit.

Margo's chin is titanium
Margo's best punch is Cotto's weakest to defend against (the uppercut)
Margo has a very high workrate compared that to Cotto, I cant see Cotto winning the championship rounds if it goes that far.

the only thing im giving Cotto here is Margo hasnt been really tested to the body, a cotto signature hook could slow Margo's workrate considerably or even drop him.

In terms of speed gotta give that edge to Cotto, but he doesnt have the footwork to dance in circles against a guy like Margarito.
