Very interesting, I had not seen this fight before. Martine is obviously further removed from his prime than Margarito who has his very basic style all but nailed down. I had forgotten that Margarito stopped Martinez - I thought it was a points decision. The left hand that did the damage really went through him. Interesting fight knowing what we know now.
Martinez has a lot of improvement to do in that fight. You can see his footwork is not in good state; Margarito is constantly walking him down and cutting him off. His shoulder movement is a lot more rudimentary, and he's shipping blows he's trying to block. Clearly a pre-prime Martinez. Margarito was on the verge of making his big run in the welterweight division, so while he was pre-prime himself, he's closer to his peak than Sergio was. Would have actually liked to see them fight peak for peak. I'm willing to bet it would have been very, very entertaining.
