Among the welterweights? A decade around and at the top of the division. A very solid resume of wins, ranging from past prime yet solid name fighters to top dogs in the division. Sergio Martinez, Kermit Cintron 2x, David Kamau, Andrew Lewis, Danny Perez, Antonio Diaz, Joshua Clottey, Sebastian Lujan, Golden Johnson, Miguel Cotto, Buck Smith. Some feel he beat Paul Williams as well. Under any criteria would he fit into a top 50-60 WW list, near the ass end of it? Keep the dripping vagina bickering in General, thanks.
Sergio was not world class when Antonio defeated him in my judgment, and there are question marks surrounding his latter career. Judging him at this point? Am impossible task.
Not sure about that Addie he was world class for a long time prior to his recent efforts, I think he may have been better back in the day. not sure about the time he faced marg but around but he looked awesome around 03
Don't be absolutely ridiculous, PP. Martinez hadn't even competed in a 12 rounder before when Antonio Margarito defeated him 10 years ago. Sergio is a fighter that has gotten better with age and experience, he is twice the fighter now than he was back then. No question in my mind.
Martinez was a world class athlete before taking up boxing, he still gets by on that natural talent. Sure he wasn't a completed product but neither was Margarito.
Wasnt talking about when Marg beat him, but when I saw him in 03 I'd put him nearer his prime than he is now, thought he'd missed the boat on world level before recent events
We have to keep the victory in perspective. An inexperienced, raw Antonio Margarito defeated an equally inexperienced and raw Sergio Martinez, not a World caliber fighter that you see today. On that basis, it was a decent victory but not even as accomplished as those over Cintron and Clottey, in my judgment.
What a legitimate post what with him being the throwaway, last name mentioned among all those fighters. Go validate your existence somewhere, you're not managing that in this thread. :--(
I also don't think it's easy to assess him right now. How can we ever really know about some of those victories and their legitimacy? He does have a very good resume. He had elite level punch resistance and stamina, crap defense but an underrated offensive intelligence. Despite lacking speed he could find great shots. Punishing left hook to the body and rarely fails to stick that left uppercut when you start to wilt and lurch over. Got dethroned by a physical freak in Williams and an ATG in Mosley later. Not the most inexcusable losses there and certainly not in his other few, coming as a young man and I think up at 154 to a good fighter. But anything else I could say would involve vaginal drippage and some sand...Because there's too much under suspicion with him. His place in WW history is highly debatable. Eh. I'm glad I wasn't the one who just said "Buck Smith". Because it easily could have been me. But I didn't so I agree, that was a terrible post and he should take that crap to the General forum. Angry lecturing indignation! :fire:fire:fire
