he fought baldomir for 8mill same ammount he got offered for marg.

the upside of going for baldo over marg was the lineal title and in order to fight baldo floyd left bob arum to pursue a fight with megastar ppv and face of boxing oscar delahoya (which he tried to get at top rank but bob arum was over protective of his cash cow)

I have a challenge for you make a list of the top 5 Welter between 06"-09" look at who they were fighting and look at who Mayweather was fighting. Mayweather took on the better more accomplished fighters.

People need to remember he didn't just refuse the Margarito fight to fight Baldomir. He also turned it down to buy out his contract and be a free agent and negotiate the De La Hoya fight which he wound up making big $$$ for. remember De La Hoya was Mayweather's target for years but Arum said he did not want to make the De La Hoya fight because there was no money in it for him 😳. Arum didn't see money in the fight that was the biggest grossing event ever until last year.

Margarito also turned down a chance to take Judahs spot with Mayweather once Judah lost to Baldomir, but instead he chose to headline a Latin PPV.

True. But at the time, no one knew he was loaded.

You can't remember it because it didn't happen.

I think it would have been entertaining but at that time I would never bet against Floyd.

Margarito would have walked through Floyd's defense and put such a hurt on him.

I cannot remember that either. Floyd made a name for himself after Gatti and I cannot imagine Margo walking away from a big money fight (unless he got more money for the PPV

I for one am glad he didn't fight him. He could have been ruined like Cotto. Cotto got the prime beat out of him with those loaded wraps.

    Im glad it wasnt Floyd.

I cant believe you guys are in here saying he should have fought a known cheat, just because he wasnt a known cheat at the time.

Thats crazy. He cheat, he got caught, all of his accomplishments are suspect. Cotto has never been the same fighter since that loss. And I hate that because Cotto was just entering his prime, and at the time looked very promising

With plaster yes, without plaster no. After Margarito got busted for loading his wraps prior to the Mosley fight he never had power again. I want to see Floyd get wrecked as much as anyone but it needs to happen according to the rules of the sport.

Lol Baldomir was the biggest paper champ
ever. He did what he had to do, but let's not act like he was a world class fighter. Margarito, post plaster controversy, would still beat the brakes off him.

The argument isn't that Margarito would look great on Floyd's resume, the argument is if he had fought him when he had hype around him, Margarito's style would have gave him hell. I'm not saying he would have won, but we would have seen a different side of Floyd. It would have been interesting.

Uhh, it wouldn't be that easy lol.

They are "suspect" you can't prove he did that his whole career, i doubt he did, can't imagine so many people would miss that. Cotto looked promising? He was a 2-division champ and beat Judah and Mosely, he was in his prime. Margarito's style would always give Cotto, my favorite fighter ever, problems.

There is no reason for Maragrito to be retired to this day, he was still cleared to fight by the doctors even after the Cotto fight. It is only his own self realization that he cannot win a meaningful without plaster that keeps him from coming back, just his own realization that he sucks...
