I'm a diehard HBO boxing fan, but why can't we get a former boxer/commentator as good as Tarver, Tarver was obviously a gifted annoncer the first time I saw him on Showtime, but he is also doing something the others ( Lennox, Max) can't do, he actually improves each time he's on. Also The Super Six documentary's are excellent and there not PPV propaganda (24/7), yeah I love 24/7, but HBO produces them for $, where even though I'm sure Showtime is profitting off of there Super Six docs. , I think there actually doing it to please the boxing fans. SO Showtime and Tarver get 2 thumbs up! What do you think??
Tarver is exceptional on the mic. He was really hard to like when he was active, but he comes across as a nice, intelligent guy whilst commentating for Showtime.
I really like Tarver as an announcer... He has a natural talent for it in my book, I think Roy is better at it, but Tarver is truly one of the best.
Tarver is more concise and more intelligent than Jones, but Roy was exceptional too. Wish he'd stop with the crap he's doing now and get back working for HBO.
As opposed to Lennox who chips in with insight like "When they say you don't have a punchers chance you have a punchers chance. When you throw a punch out there there is always a chance you may catch the opponent and that's what they mean when they say punchers chance." THANKS LENNOX
I have seen Roy predict what was gonna happen and have it happen only minutes or seconds later, a couple different times... I don't remember exactly what fights they were, but Roy is a sure genius when it comes to breaking down a fight.
Hated Tarver as a fighter, Love him as an anouncer/pundit, his smile does give me a bit of a scare though.
They need to get Froch as an announcer also. Froch has given some of the most memorable one liners I can remember from a boxer.
I also loved how he swallowed his pride and announced the Tarver Johnson fight recently after he was starched by both.... He even gave a Roy's ringside analogy, where he said who he thought was better of the two in different categories. He didn't talk much **** in the fight, which i was expecting at some point. That would honestly be hard for me to do in Roy's shoes.
Yup. For me, right now Showtime > HBO by a long shot, at least from the commentary and "Fight Camp 360" Series perspective. I wonder what the final viewership stats are from Saturday, since both HBO & Showtime had cards on at the same time...
His smile can be creepy sometimes, you have to wonder if it's real or not, but I think he's just a genuinly happy guy, I would love to see Tarver vs. Foreman in a smileathon!!!
